Under the direction of the CEO the Membership Engagement Director directs all aspects of membership including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and increasing retention of existing members.  Creates a mission driven and member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers in the Welcome Center including the Building Supervisor and Child Watch personnel.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Compiles membership statistics.  Monitors and evaluates effectiveness of membership sales and retention efforts.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment with existing and potential members. Supports program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Collaborates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support on related issues.  Ensures marketing materials comply with Y branding guidelines.
  • Develops, monitors and effectively forecasts program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff.   Responsible for the business aspect of ordering supplies, inventory and equipment management of the Welcome Center.   Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Heads the volunteer Membership and Marketing Committee.  Includes recruiting and meeting with volunteers and setting the agenda with the chairperson.
  •  Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.  Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and rental groups.
  • Participates in assigned aspects of the annual Community Partners Campaign.
  • Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings and must be able to work some evenings and weekends as job duties demand.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent strongly preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One year minimum of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in customer service; sales experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and written/oral communication skills, including public speaking. 
  • Prior YMCA experience is preferred.
