Under the supervision of the Vice President, the F/T School Age Director of The Child Achievement Branch shall perform the administrative duties of all school age programs.  The School Age Director is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and supervising an age- and developmentally-appropriate curriculum for children in all school age programs, and ensuring that the programs are meeting the needs of the children and families we serve.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, implement, and supervise the school age curriculum (with age- and developmentally- appropriate activities) to be used at all school age programs.  Ensure that the curriculum is in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the YMCA and teaches the YMCA Character Values – caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.  Ensure that the programs are of high quality and standards and meet the needs of the children and families we serve.  Ensure that all school age sites and programs are in compliance with state regulations and meet or exceed YMCA Quality Standards.  Report any suspected child abuse to supervisor.  Document and follow up as necessary.
  • Interview and hire qualified staff in accordance with state regulations and YMCA standards.  Schedule, supervise, and support all School-Age Coordinators, Y-KIDS Site Staff.
  • Visit all sites at least bi-weekly (more so if a problem arises).  Create a visitation log and record observations through the Youth Safety Standards and Guidelines.  Follow up on any needed improvements.  Monitor any behavioral issues that require conversations or meetings with parents and school officials (attempt to resolve in the child’s best interest).  Keep Vice President apprised of any pending suspensions and/or expulsions. 
  • Work closely with school administrators and personnel within the school districts.
  • Monitor the budget for school age programs, as well as the FFC grant for Asbury/Red Bank, submitting necessary reports for the state.  Ensure that budget terms are met by set deadlines.  
  • Attend bi-weekly meeting with Vice President.  Conduct self in a professional manner at all times with children, parents, co-workers, and community. Act in accordance with the YMCA philosophy, school age goals, program objectives, and our policies and procedures. Attend staff meetings, training programs as scheduled, and other YMCA and school functions, as well as Child Achievement Branch team meetings.  Continue professional development by attending meetings, trainings, workshops, etc.
  • Assist in the planning of special events to increase awareness and promote programs.
  • Actively participate in the Annual Campaign; tell the Y story; recruit volunteers to form a team; encourage, assist, and support all volunteers; attend all scheduled Annual Campaign meetings, Kick-Off, and Celebrations.  Solicit school age staff for contributions.
  • Assume or perform any other duties deemed necessary by immediate supervisor or The Community YMCA Administration.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The incumbent must have a college degree in education or a related field (or currently working towards a degree) and prior experience working with school age children and families. 
  • The incumbent must be mature-minded, responsible, and must have experience in scheduling of YMCA programs and events. 
  • The incumbent must possess skills in planning, organizing, and following through to completion on assigned tasks in a timely manner. 
  • The incumbent must have experience in supervising staff, interacting with children, and conducting activities. 
  • He/she must be CPR/First Aid/Epi-pen certified. 
  • The incumbent must possess a valid NJ Driver’s License, an acceptable driving record and valid motor vehicle insurance.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $50,000.00 - $58,000.00
