The Housekeeper/Cook is responsible for all aspects of housekeeping and food services for Mashomack Preserve and provides support for visitor relations and event planning.
The Housekeeper/Cook is responsible for all aspects of housekeeping, food service, and visitor relations at Mashomack Preserve for all events at the 9-bedroom Manor House and conference center. Duties will include cleaning and ensuring that the Manor House and other preserve buildings are organized, presentable, and ready for Preserve visitors and overnight guests. (Buildings include the Manor House, Preserve Offices, Visitor Center and Education Building, and other cottages). The Housekeeper/Cook will have full charge of the Manor House kitchen, including all phases of meal planning and preparation, serving and clean-up, inventory, ordering and stocking supplies. RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Interacts professionally with Preserve visitors and guests.
- Cleans and keeps all preserve meeting, office and guest facilities presentable and ready for visitors and overnight guests.
- Responsible for Manor House kitchen and all phases of meal preparation including: planning menus, keeping inventories, making shopping lists, shopping for ingredients and supplies, preparing, cooking, serving and clean-up.
- Responsible for keeping the Manor House kitchen in compliance with Suffolk County Department of Health codes and obtain and maintain County Food Managers Certification.
- Responsible for overseeing linen services.
- May coordinate the work of caterers, bartending services, short-term staff, and/or volunteers.
- Works with other team members to identify maintenance/repair issues and to recommend and purchase kitchen equipment.
- Works within a budget.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as required
- Work requires occasional physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and navigating the Internet.
- Must have valid driver’s license.

- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences appreciated.
- Menu planning, food preparation and dining service experience.
- Housekeeping experience, including cleaning and linen service.
- Excellent customer service skills and focus- positive, professional communication and interactions.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and common-sense approach.
- Ability to complete tasks independently within assigned timeframes.
- Flexibility and experience managing diverse tasks and activities.
