This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Directs all aspects of membership and aquatics, including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Manages monthly and annual payment processing. Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Ensures proper implementation of welcome desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff in a clear, concise way. Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Directs and supervises aquatics program activities to meet the needs of the community. Establishes new aquatics activities and expands programs in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and natatorium maintenance.
  • Creates and manages schedules for swim classes, water fitness classes, swim team, rentals, and other aquatics events.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Compiles aquatics and membership statistics. Monitors and evaluates effectiveness and participation.
  • Promotes programs and membership enrollment to existing and potential members. Coordinates aquatics program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with Senior Program Director on marketing efforts to maximize enrollments.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership & aquatics and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Leads assigned aspects of the annual fund-raising campaign.
  • Related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • One to two years previous supervisory experience in customer service or aquatics preferred.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: CPR; First Aid; AED; Lifeguard certification; CPO (Certified Pool Operator) license; West Bend online training, including: Active Shooters, Bloodborne Pathogen, Allergies, Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention, Incident Report, Bullying & Peer Pressure, Harassment at the Y, Proper Lifting, and 10 Commandments of effective Lifeguarding
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $25,000.00 - $35,000.00
