The Healthy Living Director is responsible for the oversight of group fitness classes. This person will ensure that helping people achieve healthy lifestyles is a top priority – achieved by organizing high quality YMCA healthy living programs, and developing department staff that strive to meet the needs of Y-members and the community as it relates to healthy living.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, implement, promote, administer and evaluate all group fitness classes at multiple Y branches and sites. 
  • Ensure  classes and programs comply with YMCA standards and safety procedures.
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise staff for all group fitness classes. 
  • Assess and submit budget requests for facility and equipment needs for related programs and services.
  • Develop, produce, and disseminate appropriate program information in order to promote healthy living programs to the public and to current members. 
  • Ensure that program areas, equipment, and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.    
  • Stay ccurrent on trends and serve as the expert for the YMCA in topics related to healthy living programs by attending workshops/seminars/YMCA trainings, reading publications. 
  • Represent the Y and maintain good relationships with other organizations in the community.
  • Assist with development of chronic disease prevention programs, and collaborate with other local health organizations.
  • Attend and participate in appropriate Board of Directors, Task Force, or Committee meetings as assigned.
  • Demonstrates and practices YMCA Cause-Driven Leadership Competencies.
  • Completes all other projects as assigned by supervisors.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge and experience in developing, organizing, and implementing health and wellness programs.
  • Ability to relate effectively to a diverse group of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Willing and able to teach a variety of group exercise classes.
  • Excellent communication, time management, organizational, leadership, budgetary, and computer skills. 
  • Energetic, positive demeanor with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
