Under the direction of the Senior Program Director and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the Sheboygan County YMCA and the policies of the Association, the Gymnastic Team Head Coach assists in the development, implementation, and direction of the Gymnastics team in addition to coaching the team.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Serve as the head Coach for the Gymnastic Team.
- Coach the Gymnastics team.
- Coordinate, supervise and schedule appropriate staff for all gymnastic team shows, parades, overnights, clinics, parties, etc.
- Develop all lesson plans for the Gymnastic Team and training team.
- Schedule the team for competition, rotation orders, and coach at all meets.
- Assist with set up of the Gymnastics Center and ensure safety of all equipment.
- Follow YUSA, Wisconsin YMCA Gymnastic, and USA Gymnastics rules and policies.
- Attend youth, gymnastics, and gymnastics parents’ committee meetings as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings and in-house training, give staff reports and presentations as assigned.
- Monitor new trends, develop and implement new team programs as needed.
- Maintain all Team registration forms, including membership verification, competition registration, and medical history records according to HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform other duties i.e. instructing classes, private lessons, clinics, building duty etc. as assigned by director.
- Maintain open lines of communication with parents and coaches through the use of bulletin boards, e-mail, voice mail, phone calls, and face to face meetings as time allows.
- Work with financial assistant assigned to Gymnastics Department to monitor team and meet fees.
Skills/Experience:
- The position requires a degree in Physical Education or the equivalent thereof and a background in competitive and instructional gymnastics. Prior experience as a competitive coach is necessary as well as an enjoyment in working with children.
- Knowledgeable of responsibilities related to Gymnastics Team Head Coach position.
- Organizational skills to manage deadlines and multiple priorities.
- Provide insight to the trends and needs of the community as necessary to create and implement special programs within the assigned areas.
- Manage facilities and gymnastic equipment. Must be able to push, pull, and drag equipment up to 50 lbs., lift, support, and spot gymnasts up to 150 lbs.
- Communicate clear and precise information to staff and gymnasts. Communicate tactfully with children, families, visitors and the general public.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must function and make decisions independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with other personnel.
- Able to use appropriate judgment to minimize waste of resources and misuse of any equipment, etc.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to fully meet the requirements of this position.
- Must maintain Red Cross CPR, AED and first aid certifications.
- Must maintain USA Gymnastics Safety certification, and have completed coaches training; including “Safe Sport” and “Child Protection”.
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of members, visitors, children, and any other people in the building.
