Under the direction of the Program Operations Director the Aquatics Director is responsible for the leadership and delivery of all aquatics programs and pool scheduling including: swim lessons, individual swim lessons, swim team, water exercise, swim instructor and lifeguard supervision and training, and other pool special events – rentals, parties, and new program development.
The Aquatic Director will demonstrate a commitment to the Y as a cause driven leader, and practice core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Swim Lessons – all ages including individual and special needs lessons
- Competitive Swim Team – this position may include coaching, and/or supervising the Y competitive swim team.
- Water Exercise – shared responsibility with the Director of Healthy Living
- Scheduling of lifeguards, instructors, coaches, and daily pool schedules
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all aquatics staff and volunteers
- Promote aquatics programs, and develop new programs to meet needs of Y-members and to meet the needs of the community.
- Participate as a valued part of the Y leadership team
Educational Background:
Credentials in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, or related degree.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with supervisory and teaching responsibilities in aquatics and competitive swim coaching preferred.
- Certifications: CPR/AED/FA, YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor – completed within first 6 months, Lifeguard Training Instructor – preferred, Emergency Oxygen Training Instructor – within the first year, Certified Pool Operator – a plus.
