Under the supervision of Associate Vice President of Aquatics and Aquatics Program Director, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of aquatics programs, ensuring that operations in the aquatics department run smoothly and meet the needs of the community. The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for integrating YMCA USA aquatics best practices and serving on relevant Association committees to enhance leadership skills and aquatics programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- “15-20” hours of direct program service in and/or out of the water
- Ensure pool(s) are open and staffed with certified YMCA/Red Cross certified lifeguards
- Position requires 15 hours per week “in the water” or more based on operational need
- Weekend and on call lifeguard and instructor coverage required on a rotating schedule.
- Integrates YMCA USA best practices for aquatics programs.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, supervise and evaluate PT staff and volunteers.
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate a full range of aquatic programs and services, including swim instruction, all ages and abilities; youth and adult swim team programs; supervise and developing group exercise and family programming.
- Ensure all Aquatic Department Operations are consistent with the State, County, municipality, Association and YMCA of USA procedures and regulations. This includes but not limited to safety, insurance, incident/accident reports, purchasing, Human Resources and Payroll procedures, and maintaining appropriate logs and records.
- Maintain cleanliness, and safety of facility.
Educational Background:
Two-year degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and staff management skills
- Ability to educate and motivate staff, volunteers and community about YMCA mission
- Excellent fiscal management with strong operational performance history
- Knowledge of aquatic safety principles, rescue techniques, lifeguarding and pool maintenance
Aquatics Certifications:
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO), PA Pesticide Applicator Certification and Allegheny County Bathing Place Manager certification is required within 120 days of employment.
- Must have or obtain YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor and Trainer within 1 year.
- Must have or obtain CPR for the Professional Rescuer (American Heart Association Basic Life Support and/or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional with AED),
- First Aid, and Preventing Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, Oxygen Administration, AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and related courses within 1 year
- Must have or obtain YMCA, Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Instructor Certification
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $23,985.00 - $35,977.00
