Responsible for Personal training, Group Training, consultations, new program development and management of personal trainers.

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Lead trainer coordinator is responsible Personal training, Group Training, consultations, new program development and management of personal trainers. The Lead trainer coordinator is responsible for assisting with development, organization, implementation and evaluation of health and wellness programs, ensuring that all operations in the Healthy Living department run smoothly.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Strategic Functions:

  • Assist with all operations of the Healthy Living Department and its programs. These may include facility and staff management, daily operations, small group training scheduling, incentive programs, collaborations with other agencies, health education and screenings.
  • Assist in developing, administering, achieving and evaluating the annual Healthy Living Department Operating Objectives. o Monitors the achievement of these objectives through measurable outcomes, taking appropriate action to see they are met.
  • Recruits, employs, evaluates and develops staff and volunteers while being fiscally responsible and within budget limitations.
  • Assures that the Healthy Living Programs have well-planned member and volunteer recruitment and retention plans.
  • Evaluates current programs and SGT participation to expand or discontinue classes based on customer satisfaction and member retention.
  • Notifies field service technician of fitness equipment needs.
  • Maintains an accurate system of records and reports.
  • Wears Y uniform or nametag and appropriate attire.

Tactical Functions:

  • Greets members by name, introduces self to others and encourages socialization among members.
  • Maintains 20 hours of personal training weekly
  • Serves as member of the Healthy Living Cabinet providing input for the administration, promotion and operation of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh branch.
  • Demonstrates the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
  • Participates in training and abides by the policies of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a clean and safe facility.
  • Provides a cohesive approach to customer service and training that directly impacts the end user’s commitment and personal growth.
  • Builds a culture of service delivery that is reflective of the Y mission and responsive to member issues and needs.
  • Supports branch fundraising initiatives by actively contributing to, educating on, and raising projected goal for the annual Building Bridges Campaign.
  • Assists in forming community partnerships to expand Y Without Walls concept.
  • Local travel required and occasional long distance travel for training and special events.
  • Abide by the onboarding processes and procedures as defined by the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Human Resources team. This includes, but is not limited to the submission of all paperwork and criminal clearances to the satisfaction of the HR Team PRIOR to a staff member reporting to a site for work.
  • Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Examples include but are not limited to Dayforce HCM for review and approval of employee time sheets and timely submission of credit card statement coding and supporting documentation to Accounts Payable.
Educational Background: 
This position prefers an undergraduate degree, preferably in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Health or related field.

  • Ability to educate and motivate staff, members, volunteers and community about YMCA mission
  • Excellent fiscal management with strong operational performance history
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Google and Social Media
  • Hours vary depending on need, including weekends and evenings.
  • The incumbent is required to maintain national and current Personal Trainer certification (refer to Preferred Qualifications for recognized certification list)
  • Two to four years’ experience in the area of Health and Wellness programming management is preferred.
  • Sales experience preferred
  • The incumbent is required to maintain current CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  • Must have or obtain YMCA Team Leader Certification within 3 years.
  • Must complete New Employee Orientation, Orientation to Healthy Living and Wellness Center at the Y (LCDC) within 3 months of hire.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $23,985.00 - $35,977.00
