Under the supervision of Aquatics Core Service Leader & Branch Leadership, Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of aquatics programs, ensuring that operations in the aquatics department run smoothly and meet the needs of the community. The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for integrating YMCA USA aquatics best practices and serving on relevant Association committees to enhance leadership skills and aquatics programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Teach swim lessons, provide backup lifeguard coverage and assist with other “in pool programs/ activities”.
- Ensure that pool(s) are open and staffed with certified YMCA/Red Cross certified lifeguards
- Integrates YMCA USA best practices for aquatics programs.
- Develop annual operating objectives for the Aquatics Department.
- Monitor the achievement of these objectives, taking appropriate action to ensure they are met.
- Develop, monitor and administer annual budget (income and expense) for the Departments.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, supervise and evaluate PT staff and volunteers.
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate a full range of aquatic programs and services, including swim instruction, all ages and abilities; youth and adult swim team programs; supervise and developing group exercise and family programming.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of the aquatic facility, equipment and supplies used in all programs under his/her responsibility.
- Ensure all Aquatic Department Operations are consistent with the State, County, municipality, Association and YMCA of USA procedures and regulations. This includes but not limited to safety, insurance, incident/accident reports, purchasing, Human Resources and Payroll procedures, and maintaining appropriate logs and records.
- Maintain cleanliness, and safety of facility.
- Structure program activities that support positive parent child relationship
- Work with the association marketing team to support program advertisement
Educational Background:
Two-year degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and staff management skills
- Ability to educate and motivate staff, volunteers and community about YMCA mission
- Excellent fiscal management with strong operational performance history
- Two years’ experience in aquatics or management of a pool facility with proven knowledge of aquatic safety principles, rescue techniques, lifeguarding, and pool maintenance
Required Certifications
- Must have or obtain YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Certification within 90 days of employment.
- Must have or obtain YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification within 1 year.
- Must have or obtain YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor certification within 1 year.
- Must have or obtain CPR for the Professional Rescuer (American Heart Association Basic Life Support and/or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional with AED), First Aid, and Preventing Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens, Oxygen Administration, AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and related courses within 1 year.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO), PA Pesticide Applicator Certification and Allegheny County Bathing Place Manager certification is required within 120 days of employment.

Salary: $23,985.00 - $29,981.00
