Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director of Aquatics and Programs, the Program Director will provide direct leadership and oversight for programs including: family programs, stay and play, holiday camps, summer day camp and other special interest programs as assigned while consistently anticipating and exceeding member expectations. The Program Director will be responsible for creating and implementing an integrated program strategy to support membership while delivering services as outlined by the association to include organization-wide standards and consistencies throughout all programs. The Program Director will provide supervision to various staff teams driving superior program quality, ensuring all programs support membership, increasing program enrollments, and enhancing the member/participant experience. This position ensures that their teams operate efficiently and employs a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for member/participant satisfaction, financial management and overall growth.

Critical areas of expertise include: leading others and working in teams, highly organized multi-program management, delivering and managing robust programs focusing on quality, proven results in growth in programs, successfully overseeing part-time and entry-level teams and interviewing, hiring and onboarding associates.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Program Quality and Growth

  • Family Programming / Stay & Play > Provides direct leadership and supervision to the Stay and Play associate team in creating fun, adventure filled, memorable experiences for members and their children. Designs, operates, & supervises the Stay & Play center, all center family activities and classes, Parents' Night Out and other youth events, birthday parties, and any other activities/events that benefit and add value to Y membership. Responsible for the center's family programming calendar and for making connection points with families to increase participation and drive a superior member experience. 
  • Camp > Provides direct leadership and oversight to all summer and holiday camp program operations and staffing. Works directly with the Senior Director to manage all aspects of camp planning, camp associate recruitment and training ensuring the delivery of a fun and safe camp experience that supports membership. Ensures that the camp team operates efficiently and employs a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for participant satisfaction, financial management and overall growth in all camping programs. 
  • Maintains quality and ensures that the needs of the members and the community are met within departments and program areas through an integrated program strategy that supports membership.
  • Responds to member and participant concerns in a timely manner, ensuring a positive program experience for members and participants. Anticipate and exceed expectations consistently throughout programs.
  • Participates, leads, attends, and actively engages all assigned projects, task forces, meetings and conferences as assigned or required.
  • Assists in all areas as assigned

Team Leadership 

  • Provides direct supervision and leadership to Stay and Play associates, holiday and summer camp associates and key program leaders/volunteers to hire, develop, motivate and retain a committed team passionate about the YMCA's mission, safety and service to members, and the Tampa Y promise. 
  • Provides direct supervision to all direct reports and ensures their professional development and success.
  • Manages associate schedules and payroll for departments ensuring efficient use of resources occurs within programs at all times.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and county laws and regulations related to payroll, licensing, child labor laws, Assist in all areas, project teams, job tasks as assigned.
  • Attend all conferences, trainings, meetings, and presentations as assigned.

Safety and Risk Management

  • Ensures all Tampa Y program standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention. 
  • Ensures all program associates are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures. 
  • Maintains proper records, including associate certifications, meetings, and trainings. 
  • Schedules associates and volunteers in accordance to safety and program needs and ensures all safety and program ratios are followed. 
  • Monitors programming to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulations.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS in Recreation/Health Sciences, Education or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years of experience in camp or similar youth related programs in a supervisory/leadership role with preference given to Y Camping. Prior experience in payroll management preferred.
  • American Campaign Association experience / familiarity preferred.
  • Two years leading or working with teams in a leadership role preferred.
  • Proven results in increasing program quality and growth through exceptional planning and organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals, cultivate and retain program participants.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with program prospects and others to achieve goals.
  • Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
  • Ability to understand, adapt to and interact with diverse people, teams, perspectives and cultures.
  • Proficient in using email, Internet, and other PC-based applications with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
  • Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $38,000.00 - $42,000.00
