The 5th Avenue Theatre is seeking a Public Relations Manager to join the Marketing & Guest Services Department, which is also the umbrella for Communications and Sales. The person in this position will work closely with the Director of Marketing, Assistant Director of Marketing, and Senior Communications Manager to develop strategies and work plans to grow visibility for The 5th Avenue Theatre and the people who contribute to the mission and vision of the organization. A successful candidate will be informed and enthusiastic about the variety of media and publicity available today and will find innovative ways to share stories and content with journalists, media representatives, and influencers.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive public relations strategies and objectives to create awareness and visibility of The 5th Avenue Theatre productions and programs, including artistic, education, and community engagement events and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Marketing teams to ensure process, strategy, and messaging alignment across all communications touchpoints
  • Draft and distribute compelling pitches and press releases to garner press coverage in local and national press across mediums (digital, print, TV, radio, etc.).
  • Build and maintain relationships with key journalists and support institutional media relations strategy.
  • Coordinate and attend press interviews, including off-sites.
  • Track press coverage for productions and programs.
  • Draft talking points, memos, and other materials as needed to help prepare spokespeople for interviews and for external stakeholders.
  • Manage relationships with photographers and videographers capturing footage for publicity purposes.
  • Support execution of press nights, special events, rehearsal and production photo calls, and video shoots.
  • Consult on program production.
  • Arrange media tickets with the Box Office and distribute to contacts.
  • Manage and update the media and opening night lists.
  • Track reviews, features, and select pull quotes.
  • Route images and visuals for artist approval.
  • Support departmental processes and perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-4 years of professional public relations experience, in arts and entertainment a plus
  • Solid writing and verbal communications skills; knowledge of AP style guide a plus
  • Organized and prepared
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and to synthesize information in a compelling manner
  • Ability to create strong, productive relationships with a wide variety of people including staff, artists, media, producers
  • Professional adherence to confidentiality and discretion
  • Demonstrated passion for the arts and, ideally, musical theater
  • A high level of computer literacy required, including familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite. Skills in Tessitura desired.
Compensation/Benefits: 

$55,000-$61,000 Annually
