General Summary
The Specialist, Public Policy is responsible for providing support to the Senior Director of Public Policy. This includes: (1) conducting research; (2) drafting and designing fact sheets and other written materials; (3) helping to develop and compile materials for use by Association chapters; (4) tracking progress of the implementation of public policy priorities; (5) organizing logistics for meetings and trainings; and (6) performing a limited amount of administrative functions.
Essential Job Functions
Conducting research:
- Conducting various research projects, as needed, on Alzheimer's-related policy, particularly data and economic research and reviews of published literature;
- Developing extensive knowledge on data sources, including health surveys and questionnaires; and
- Analyzing data with SAS or STATA, if qualified to do so.
- Updating, writing, and designing Fact Sheets on policy issues and priorities; and
- Preparing various other materials to convey data and statistics, such as tables, charts, and heat maps.
- Regularly reviewing all public policy materials on the internal and external website to ensure all information is current and accurate;
- Maintaining inventory of public policy materials and working with external printers on such resources;
- Tracking progress of states on various performance metrics, including strategic plan metrics; and
- Compiling other resources as needed, particularly with respect to the training and professional development of chapter public policy staff.
- Organizing the monthly chapter public policy staff call and other webinars and calls; and
- Handling logistics for meetings and in-person trainings.
- Working on global Alzheimer's issues in conjunction with Alzheimer's Disease International;
- Providing any necessary assistance to the Senior Director of Public Policy in his role as functional liaison to Area and Regional Leads; and
- Performing a limited amount of administrative functions, such as data entry, printing, scheduling, and file organization.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- 1-3 years experience in public policy preferred.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Familiarity with InDesign, Maptitude, and SAS/STATA a plus.
