The Volunteer and Field Experiences manager is our expert on where to take people to engage with nature and our work. They will lead and run a program creating engaging field experiences for a variety of audiences including donors, board members and government leaders. They will manage our active volunteer pool through execution of meaningful experiences that may also provide stewardship to Nature Conservancy preserves.
The purpose of this role is to create, execute and leverage meaningful field experiences that connect people to nature and our work as a way of building support for our mission and goals. Key functions:
- Field experiences for donors and board 20%
- Field experiences for government relations 20%
- Stewardship of TNC land by volunteers 50%
- Management of volunteer program 10%
The Volunteer and Field Experience Manager will manage an annual calendar of events and assure each event is leveraged for maximum impact. They will coordinate closely with a wide variety of colleagues and teams. As a member of the marketing team, they will also be a storyteller, sharing field experiences on our digital channels as a way of building support.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
Level of Position: This position involves individual decision making as well as close collaboration with three key teams- marketing, philanthropy and stewardship. Within the scope of the position, the Volunteer and Field Experiences Manager will:
- Work closely with the marketing, philanthropy and stewardship teams to create an annual calendar of all field events.
- Assure events are executed professionally including managing supplies, food and safety equipment.
- Measure success including quality of events, engagement of participants, and leveraging of the event across areas (for example, inviting donors to volunteer at a stewardship event).
- Share each event on our digital media
- Document each event including learnings for future events. It includes managing a budget and incorporating previous year successes (and challenges) to optimize the program.
- Work Environment and Schedule This position involves regular desk/office work plus frequent travel around Washington especially in the summer, driving, working weekends and odd hours and leading physical outdoor activity on a regular basis.
- Experience managing business relationships such as donors, partners, members;
- Strong communication skills including writing and speaking in front of a group;
- Project management skills;
- Strong time management and organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment with internal and external partners;
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences;
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid driver’s license;
- Donor cultivation and engagement experience;
- Experience working outdoors either in recreation field or with field work;
- Digital media experience such as Facebook, blogging, etc.;
- Volunteer outreach and/or recruiting experience;
- Basic knowledge of database management programs
