Field Coordinator - Major Taylor Project Youth Program

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate Major Taylor Project Ride Leaders program in Seattle, Highline, and Tukwila School Districts
• Provide support to Major Taylor Project Ride Leaders by providing Cascade resources and club materials, coordinating ride leader trainings, and facilitating routine communication.
• Work with Fleet Manager to coordinate the Major Taylor Project bike fleet, equipment, and tools at each site in secure storage and address maintenance issues in a timely manner.
• Coordinate volunteers for program sites and maintenance events. Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator to facilitate background checks and onboarding for volunteers.
• Assist in Ride Leader training and orientation events, building a culture that is inclusive and welcoming for all participants.
• Support Major Taylor Project Build-A-Bike and Ride Club curriculum through community partnerships with the Bikery, Bikeworks, and 2nd Cycle in Tacoma.
• Plan, coordinate, and lead Major Taylor Project events and seasonal field trips, such as cyclocross races, Cascade major rides, and youth leadership retreats.
• Coordinate with Major Taylor Project team to ensure ride leading coverage, working with various program sites as needed.
• Support Major Taylor Project Field Coordinator in Tacoma, by delivering club materials to Tacoma once per month and engaging with Tacoma ride leaders, volunteers, and students.

Site and Community Liaison

• Collaborate with school leadership and teacher, after school program coordinators, students and parents with the program
• Coordinate and/or lead student outreach efforts with Ride Leaders
• Collaborate with like-minded community groups, identify student community engagement opportunities
• Identify cultural or educational destinations for ride clubs and collaborate with on-site organizations to enhance student experience
• Discover and encourage complementary off-bike activities for students, such as advocacy opportunities

CONTEXT IN ORGANIZATION

The Education Department is an 7-person team with representation on the senior leadership team. Through bicycling, we empower educators and learners of all ages to intentionally create and deliver responsive and inclusive programming as a resource to achieve gender and racial equity.

We strive to facilitate opportunities for students to become participants in communities of learning that foster empowerment and joy, where the bicycle is a tool for transformation. QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Understanding of social justice and awareness of privilege
• Minimum of one year of experience working with youth, teens, or families
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
• Basic knowledge of bicycle safety
• Ability to ride a bicycle and lead a group safely
• Must be self-directed and detail-oriented
• Basic computer competence

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Proven ability to build relationships and engage with stakeholders in a variety of diverse cultural settings
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Experience managing and mentoring volunteers and staff
• Demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience
• Ability to speak other languages, in addition to English (eg: Spanish, Vietnamese) a plus.
• Valid Driver License. This position is subject to the completion of a background check including motor vehicle/driving record.
• Ability to drive large vehicles (vans, rental trucks, etc.) a plus. (25 years or older)

HOURLY WAGE

$19.23 per hour
