The Education & Curriculum Program Director is responsible for creating the lesson plans, program framework, and activity kits for after school and camp programs across our YMCA of Greater Seattle branches and sites. This position will assist with training staff on program delivery as well as researching and supporting emerging curricula.

Targeted first day: 1st of September.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Prepare instructional materials and lesson plans for use by programs including producing files that are print-ready and contain outlines with the necessary basic detail to direct instruction/lead programming.
  • Coordinate the review/assessment of current lessons plans and program framework models to ensure that the program is meeting intended objectives and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a lesson plan bank for assigned program areas.
  • Develop and maintain database of site-specific goals and learning objectives so that lesson plans may be individualized to program site/area goals.
  • Manage alignment of lesson plans, program framework and activities to standards set forth by Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF), YMCA of the USA, Early Achievers Quality Rating Systems and the Weikart Center Program Quality tools.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of new curriculum. Conduct research and consult with branch and youth development representatives in the design and development of new curriculum
  • Develop and implement professional development criteria to ensure site staff have the training and tools needed to effectively deliver developed lesson and activity plans. Deliver trainings as needed. Aggressively pursue opportunities to learn best practices in professional development and provide in-program coaching and support as needed.
  • Actively pursue opportunities to continue to learn best practices in curriculum writing through research, professional development, and other learning opportunities.
  • Special projects as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in education and/or state teaching certification required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five years of teaching or youth development experience, including a minimum of two years in program/curriculum development.
  • Two+ years’ experience managing or supervising others.
  • Experience in anti-bias and cultural relevant programming and activity development.
  • Proven balance of classroom teaching experience and time in afterschool, early learning, camp or other youth development/out of school time programs preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience developing curriculum and planning lessons.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
