Position Overview: We seek a proactive, experienced individual ready to shape strategic communication initiatives and build partnerships critical to our mission. As the Communication Director, you will be a key player in our organization, leading efforts to translate complex education policy into compelling narratives and campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences. This is a full-time, hybrid position headquartered in Seattle.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Strategic Communications:

  • Develop and execute multi-layered communications plans in collaboration with Roundtable leadership, connecting with audiences from students and families to educators and employers. The current brand portfolio includes Partnership for Learning, Washington Roundtable, Ready Washington, Core Plus Aerospace, and College Promise Coalition.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of written, graphic, and video content that is compelling and consistent, increases organizational storytelling capacity, and enhances our digital media presence.
  • Translate policy into meaningful communications, collaborating closely with our advocacy team.
  • Evaluate and measure the impact of communication campaigns.

Coalition / Campaign Management:

  • Lead the Ready Washington coalition, directing campaign development and execution, fostering relationships, and managing budget.
  • Drive communications planning and execution for the College Promise Coalition.

Media Relations:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets to enhance the organization’s visibility.
  • Prepare and distribute media statements, articles, and other materials.

Management & Organizational Support:

  • Manage communications vendors and consultants.
  • Represent PFL with regional and national partners, maintaining key contacts.
  • Provide staffing support for board, committee, coalition, and partner meetings.
  • Prepare and staff Washington Roundtable and PFL board members and senior leaders and executives for education-related engagements
Skills/Experience: 

Required:

  • 8+ years of experience in writing, media relations, and strategic advocacy communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft persuasive content for various audiences.
  • Experience in innovation, seeking out strategic projects and partnerships.
  • Strong budget planning and management skills.
  • Project management track record.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, related field, or commensurate career experience.
  • Proficiency in digital media communications and tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and a “can do” attitude.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of Washington State K-12 and postsecondary education policies.
  • Experience leading advocacy coalitions with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Washington’s political and business climate.
  • Experience in management and mentoring.
  • Graphic design, photography, or video editing skills.
Compensation/Benefits: 
  • Competitive base compensation ($100,000 to $140,000 annually).
