YGS seeks a dynamic, mission-driven operational leader as its next Chief Branch Officer (CBO). The CBO will help shape the organization’s long-term strategy, deliver on program commitments in branches and facilities, nurture relationships with key stakeholders, and empower a diverse leadership team to broaden impact in the Seattle region. The CBO will provide a clear and actionable strategy to execute on vision for the organization both internally and externally, as set by the CEO. The CBO will support the CEO in positioning YGS as a thought leader on social responsibility/justice, youth development, and healthy living. In close partnership with the highly collaborative YGS senior leadership team, the CBO is expected to build upon the organization’s success, constructing and fulfilling all assigned financial and operational objectives. The CBO should be an inspirational voice and ambitious in his or her desire to help grow and scale the organization regionally.

The CBO for YGS is ultimately responsible for the successful management of the day-to-day operations of the branches and facilities in one of the largest YMCAs in the United States. The position is also responsible for, in collaboration with other SLT members, membership and donor engagement and growth, program development, fiscal management, fundraising, board delivery, volunteer recruitment and engagement, and community outreach. This position will also be ultimately responsible for multi-branch facility operations, management, maintenance, and growth, and support of YGS growth beyond YGS walls.

We are seeking a proven operator and strategic thinker who can direct change management with ease. The CBO will be comfortable motivating, communicating, and influencing at all levels and in a multitude of environments. This executive will operate with the highest levels of integrity, honesty, and personal standards and ethics.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Partner with the senior leadership team to lead the organization into the future, through organizational design, culture, innovation, process improvement, and strong financial oversight
  • Directly supervise a diverse set of dynamic branch/district team members responsible for managing one of the largest YMCA branch operating budgets in the United States
  • Drive overall operational growth across our branches as One Y by fostering a climate of community, belonging, and achievement for all
  • Foster a culture of innovation which includes piloting new activities, community gatherings, program initiatives and activities, pricing, member recruitment and retention strategies, and possible new site development
  • Provide leadership and guidance to District and Branch Executives and senior operations staff in developing sound operating plans while maintaining compliance with policies, laws, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop annual performance goals and operating budget and cascade them throughout the branches to ensure goal alignment and monitor financial reports to ensure revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled
  • Ensure all branch facilities are safe, vibrant, and well-maintained, and meet all requisite standards including those set by YGS, Y-USA, and Department of Health
  • Present to various Committees, Elected Officials, Funders, Stakeholders, Board of Directors, and the President & CEO, as requested
  • In collaboration with YGS SLT, fundraise and meet YGS financial targets and other goals and objectives annually
  • Consider donating to the annual, capital, and planned giving campaigns and inspire giving by others internally and externally
Educational Background: 
BA/BS degree in human services, business, social services or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of 10 years as a successful COO or CEO (or equivalent) of a medium or large, urban, financially stable YMCA or comparable operating experience
  • Proven track record of executive leadership in urban multi-site management
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, successful membership practices and development, quality program execution, volunteerism, facility and property management and sound financial practices
  • Strong strategic planning skills including execution expertise
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis
  • Demonstrated experience attracting and developing high performance teams and a positive culture
