Audubon is seeking two Camp Counselors to co-lead our nature-themed summer camps. Together they will administer the day-to-day camp operations for a group of 16 children (ages 6 - 9); delivering curriculum and activities that have been specifically developed for our program.  

Nature education is the overall theme for our camps, but we have three specific programs: Wilderness Skills, Nature Art, and Feathered Friends (birding). Our camp programs are completely outdoors and our location provides many opportunities for hikes and swimming. 

The Center is offering seven weeks of camps.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Deliver in-class education programs and in park field trips
  • Ensure that students are supervised at all times
  • Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment
  • Resolve conflicts and student needs in caring and positive manner
  • Ensure participants are safe and operating in areas that are free of hazards
  • Set-up and clean-up of camp materials and equipment
  • Supervise campers and organize enrichment activities
  • Keep track of supplies and materials, and address needs that may arise
  • Do head-counts of participants throughout the day
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Environmental education experience required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous experience with outdoor education and/or leadership of groups of children ages 6-9
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental education and/or alternative education
  • Experience facilitating games, activities and creative arts
  • Excellent public speaking and group management skills
  • Creative strategies for conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Experience in fields of natural science such as biology, geology, ecology and/or general knowledge of Pacific Northwest ecosystems
  • Experience in inquiry-based teaching techniques
  • Ideal candidates will have an outgoing and energetic personality and loves being outdoors
