Responsible for managing volunteer program to achieve and exceed goals for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in support of LLS’ mission, within the region and/or chapter's chartered area. In an average year, this Volunteer Program Manager will see over 900 volunteers supporting the chapter and program goals including increasing retention, encouraging participation in multiple campaigns, and transitioning volunteers into high-level supporters such as top fundraisers, committee members and ambassadors.
- Implement organizational best practices with regard to managing high level volunteers, including all event and office volunteers as well as volunteers in specialized roles such as campaign ambassadors, community outreach volunteers, patient access assistants and interns.
- Recruit event volunteers by email, corporate meetings, events and volunteer fairs, internal and external websites, social media.
- Work with chapter staff to understand event logistics and assign volunteer positions/shifts accordingly.
- Provide detailed pre-event communication so volunteers arrive on time, place them in their respective positions at events, ensure staff are trained and able to manage them to the best of their ability.
- Serve as the main point of contact throughout the event and provide for volunteers’ needs (food, water, supplies, etc.).
- Follow-up accordingly post-event (thank you emails, post-event surveys, staff debriefs).
- Cultivate volunteer relationships by identifying high-potential volunteers (by referral, at events, networking, etc.) and working to find appropriate placements for them to assist within the chapter.
- Staying connected with volunteer base year-round through appreciation efforts, social media, reaching out on special occasions (birthdays, holidays, known anniversaries), and events.
- Recruit and assist with onboarding interns by providing a streamlined process so that recruitment messaging and locations (colleges, internal and external websites) are consistent and professional.
- Work with HR and staff to make sure all policies are adhered to for all parties’ protection.
- Provide assistance with scheduling and conducting interviews as well as communicating with candidates and assisting with on-boarding logistics (scheduling work space, phone, email).
- Manage in-office volunteers and work with staff to identify needs for volunteer assistance in the office (a wide variety of tasks including labeling mailers, database entry, phone calls and hand written notes, organization and cleaning, event prep, etc.).
- Serve as the main point of contact for scheduling and maintaining a positive volunteer experience and also ensuring that confidentiality forms and liability waivers are signed and kept up-to-date.
Experience Requirements:
- 2 – 4 years of experience in volunteer management

- Good communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of digital, social media & emerging online channels

- Knowledge of MS Office Suite

- May be required to move Campaign materials weighing up to 15 pounds for various events.
