What you’ll be doing…
As the Senior Director of Education for our elementary programs, you’ll have an office in our YMCA Program offices in South Seattle, but will spend much of your time in the community supporting YMCA school based programs in Seattle and South King County.

You will direct and oversee the operations and program development for YMCA elementary school based academic support programs, designed and delivered to close the achievement and opportunity gaps. Working directly with school staff and community partners, Y staff provide high quality academic support, enrichment and arts programming. The Senior Program Director is responsible for supervising staff, developing relationships with school and community leaders and identifying new partnership opportunities to expand programs to new locations. You will have an opportunity to be a leader in advocating for educational equity for youth in our communities.

Areas of Responsibility: 

PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:

  • Directs and manages the development, operations and growth of Academic success programs for elementary age students.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program(s) within the community in accordance with the Association and Education Initiatives strategic plans.
  • Develops and manages the budgets related to the position. Meets fiscal objectives. Closely monitors revenue and expense.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and supervises assigned staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Provides development and leadership.
  • Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports, with an emphasis on student level data, and program outcomes.
  • Provides leadership and support for Education Initiatives team, annual fund raising campaign, and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA standards, all regulations and other applicable standards.
  • Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
Skills/Experience: 

You should have:

  1. Bachelor's degree in program area or related field or equivalent education/experience.
  2. Five or more years of related experience including staff and volunteer supervision, community program development, financial management and fund raising.
  3. Broad knowledge of assigned program area(s) and the standards and regulations related to the programming.
  4. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  5. CPR and First Aid certifications required.
  6. Skills in child behavior management and child abuse prevention.
  7. Ability to visit sites and community organizations.
  8. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
  9. Prefer familiarity with personal computers.
