Under the guidance and direction of Seward Park Audubon Center’s School Programs Manager, the Environmental Educator is responsible for delivering hands-on, inquiry-based environmental education programs, both in-school and outdoors. The Environmental Educator should be comfortable leading large groups of elementary and middle school students. This position requires travel to local schools for in-class programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Deliver established curriculum for in-class and outdoor field trip programs
  • Implement facilitation and group management techniques
  • Set-up, clean-up, and keep track of materials and equipment
  • Supervise students and maintain physical and emotional safety at all times
  • Resolve conflicts and address student needs in caring and positive manner
  • Coordinate schedule, activities, and communicate frequently with School Programs Manager
  • Other educational duties as assigned
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous experience with outdoor and environmental education for classroom groups of children ages 6—14
  • Strong interest in environmental education or alternative nature-based education
  • Experience facilitating games, activities and creative arts
  • Confident public speaking and group management skills
  • Ability to use creative strategies for conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Experience in fields of environmental sciences such as biology, ecology and/or general knowledge of Pacific Northwest flora and fauna
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills and the ability to work independantly, as well as, a part of a team
  • Must enjoy being outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain, up to 3 miles, with or without accommodation
  • Demonstrated punctuality and self-directed organizational skills
  • Willing to work a a flexible schedule including occasional nights and weekends
  • Ability to reliably provide own local transportation to and from schools
  • Current Adult and Child CPR/AED Certification desired
  • Spanish or East African language skills desired
