The Director of Finance and Operations will be a strategic thought-partner and report to the executive director (ED). The successful candidate will be an internal facing leader with oversight in these areas: finance, business planning and budgeting, human resources, administration, and IT. They will supervise the operations coordinator and administrative assistant. This is an exempt position and the salary range is $75,000 -$85,000 per year.
Duties
- Provides a strong day-to-day leadership presence in a “coaching” culture within CAN.
- Creates and implements improvements in training and development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, performance evaluation and recruiting.
- Serves as the management liaison to the board and audit committee; effectively communicates and presents critical financial matters at Board of Directors meetings.
- Coaches a staff of young professionals using a supportive and professional approach
- Assigns accountabilities; sets objectives; establishes priorities; and monitors and evaluates results.
Financial Management
- Maintains financial reporting systems including:
- Fund accounting general ledger
- Reconciliation of donations, pledges, grants with Development Department
- Cash balances, cash flow and fund balances
- Employee compensation and fringe benefits
- Prepares annual organization budget and reviews budget vs. actual activity with Executive Director and CAN Board Finance Committee
- Generates forecasts of revenue, cash, and expenses
- Coordinates annual audit preparation
- Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations\
- Oversees payroll and accounts receivable and payable
Operations
- Maintain city and state business licenses and required reporting processes
- Oversees all facilities and capital assets (IT, Telephone, office space, office equipment) and related operational needs of the organization
- Ensures the health and safety of the workplace
- Oversight of leases and landlord/tenant relationships
Qualifications:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Finance
- 3-5 years’ experience in managing finance and operations functions
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel and Google Suite applications
- Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the nonprofit or start-up sector
- Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
Preferred qualifications include:
- MBA or Masters in Nonprofit Management preferred
- Passion for the mission and goals of College Access Now, public service, social justice, and youth development
- Experience with, and understanding of, the diverse communities we serve, higher education, and youth advocacy
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $80,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
