The Membership Engagement Director is responsible for all aspects of member service initiatives at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA, including new member recruitment, existing member retention, new member onboarding and communication. Builds strong lasting relationships with members, employees and the community that will deepen the impact of our cause. Supervises 2.5M budget. The Membership Engagement Director will represent our Y in the community as a leader and partner, being a champion and spokesperson for the Y's membership initiatives. Supervises assigned staff and oversees Member Services Desk operations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Effectively plans and executes strategies that support new member recruitment and ensures that membership growth and retention goals are met.     
  • Creates a mission driven and member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Implements membership strategies that support retention of existing members and onboarding new members.  
  • Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration.
  • Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Produces monthly membership reports and monitors trends and progress toward goals.
  • Recruits, hires, trains and develops personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Oversee child watch; providing a safe and stimulating space for children while parents are involved in facility activities.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Ensures proper implementation of front desk procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff. Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Organizes membership events at the Y and represents the Y at community events to promote the Y.
  • Leads assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.
  • Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
  • Adheres to all policies, guidelines, rules, best practices as outlined by the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA or directed by supervisor.
  • Assist in all areas as assigned.

Philanthropy:

  • Accountable for understanding the organization’s charitable status and mission to assure access for all through active participation in fundraising and philanthropy efforts.
  • Work with key volunteers to increase understanding and skill set for participants in the annual campaign by identifying and recruiting member volunteers and soliciting donations.
  • Build strategic relationships with members for year round member cultivation to increase the number of member campaign volunteers and donors.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills;ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a cross-functional, team-based environment.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and written/oral communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in customer service preferred.
  • Supervision of a 4,000+ membership unit Y or equivalency preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of generating leads and closing sales.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and implementing results-oriented retention and engagement strategies.
  • Strategic planning and tactical execution experience that resulted in achievement of goals.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00
