The Board of Directors of the Golden Corridor Family YMCA is seeking a dynamic, influential, visionary leader to take our already successful Y to the next level. We have two full facilities, Campanelli in the greater Schaumburg area and Taylor in Elgin, and an impactful residence camp (Edwards YMCA Camp and Retreat Center) in East Troy, WI.
Our new CEO must have experience in developing and implementing strategic approaches to position the Y as an indispensable community asset. The Y’s success and future growth is reliant on strong operations, developing productive partnerships and pursuing collaborations with not-for-profit organizations, the public sector and private businesses to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
The CEO must be able to manage a staff team and structure that suits the future growth of the organization and addresses the needs residents of a very culturally diverse area. The successful candidate must be able to manage the YMCA with fiscally sound best practices without sacrificing the member experience and customer service to participants.
The CEO will lead the organization in promoting the Y services and image, increasing quality and expanding programs and services and addressing the Y’s charitable mission. This position requires strong skills and competencies that include strategic planning and implementation, leading a culture of philanthropy, advocating the vision of the YMCA, proper fiscal management and improving operating performance.
The board believes its new CEO should be a highly visible experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to achieve excellence in the following roles:
Implement the Current Strategic Plan with an Annual Operational Plan
- The current strategic plan was developed in late 2018. The successful candidate will lead the structuring and implementing of a plan of action to address any specific areas that are in need of enrichment or development including, but not limited to the following: create a sustainable business model that supports the desired impact and mission of the Y, increase philanthropic support in order to meet the needs of the communities served, develop collaborative relationships to move programs off-site, review organizational chart and right-size the organization, tell the Y story more effectively, and enhance and engage leadership development.
Provide Strong Fiscal Leadership and Lead a Culture of Philanthropy
- The CEO will be expected to provide exceptional direction in fiscal matters; create a culture of philanthropy among the volunteers, staff and members; develop a strategic fund raising platform to include annual campaign, capital campaign, major gifts, planned giving, foundation grants, special events, collaboration; and create revenue streams necessary to support and sustain the needs of all of the Y facilities.
Advocate the Y Vision throughout the Community
- Act as an ambassador for the Y within the communities by instilling confidence, credibility, and trust in the Y with corporations, foundations, and major donors. Identify and gain access to new pipelines of support. Demonstrate a high level of comfort in communicating the meaningful mission of the Y.
Improve Operating Performance
- Leverage the resources currently available and create new resources to drive the Y to higher levels of performance and increase the long-term sustainability and stability of the Y.
- YMCA Organizational Leader Certification. Note: Candidates not already in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain this certification via the Y-USA Training and Leadership Development criterion.
- 5 – 7 years senior leadership experience in similar industry.
Preferred Candidate Criteria:
- Experience with enhancing overall operational performance.
- Ability to successfully develop and implement a strategic plan.
- Proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management.
- Use effective methods to develop employees and to enhance and recognize performance of staff team.
- Apply a fiscally sound business management approach.
- Developing, communicating and cooperating with an effective Board of Directors.
- Ability to develop and leverage community partnerships and alliances.
- Successful background in membership and programming in diverse communities.
- Fundraising experience including annual campaigns, securing grants, short and long-term endowment growth, operating revenue growth, and capital planning.
- Experience with camp operations and camp donor support.
Salary Range: $120,000 - $160,000 commensurate with experience
