Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Wellness & Sports Director will be responsible for supervising all department staff, managing budgets, and programming for Wilton Branch Wellness and Youth/Sports departments. This position will work in conjunction with VPO, ED’s and Wellness Directors in the association to develop and implement a personal training system that builds and increases personal training and small group training sales and revenue. The Wellness & Sports Director will work collaboratively with all branch staff, especially with membership staff, to ensure the successful delivery and achievement of member acquisition, engagement and retention strategies including tours, member spotlights, healthy start, AOA programming, fitness challenges, new programs, offerings and more.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct wellness center staff, massage therapists and personal trainers
  • Manage on-boarding, performance management, safety/risk management and job training for all health and wellness staff
  • Work in conjunction with VPO, ED’s and Wellness Directors in the association to develop and implement a personal training system that builds and increases personal training and small group training sales and revenue
  • Anticipate and address member and staff concerns to a satisfactory resolution by creating new processes/procedures and programs, re-evaluating and redoing existing processes (as needed)
  • Effectively manage budget
  • Work collaboratively with all branch staff, especially with membership staff, to ensure the successful delivery and achievement of member acquisition, engagement and retention strategies including tours, member spotlights, healthy start, AOA programming, fitness challenges, new programs, offerings and more
  • Work in conjunction with Membership Supervisor to implement and increase participation in Healthy Start orientations
  • Create a positive environment surrounding wellness floor staff and their engagement with members, other staff and each other

Youth Programs and Sports

  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct staff as needed
  • Manage approved program budget
  • Monitor and purchase necessary sporting and program equipment as budget permits, ensure organization and functionality of equipment on a regular basis
  • Compile program statistics; monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs, develop and implement regularly scheduled communication with past and current participants including end of session surveys
  • Develop curriculum for each program
  • Assist in marketing and distribution of program information
  • Manage the field house schedule
  • Evaluate field house usage
  • Communicate rentals, programs, closures, open field house times with the group ex scheduler, leadership team and hot sheet
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations
  • Organize, develop, market and conduct sports and program clinics for youth and adults
  • Branch/Association Responsibilities
  • Attend all staff meetings and Association meetings, as required
  • Play an active role in monthly HW meetings
  • Play an active role in branch/association events
  • All other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Nationally accredited personal training certification (or must be willing to obtain)
  • 5+ years experience implementing and managing high quality and volume health & wellness programs
  • Atleast 3 years of experience in a supervisory role with skills in recruiting, training and staff development
  • Excellent communication skills and comprehension
  • YMCA experience preferred
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $42,000.00 - $54,000.00
