The TFA Regional Analyst coordinates and implements internal initiatives such as organizational knowledge management, internal procedures, internal networks and project coordination. S/he will also support the Nature Conservancy's conservation goals by serving as a liaison and informational contact between the organization and outside agencies or companies.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 (TFA 2020) is a global public-private partnership in which partners take voluntary actions, individually and in combination, to reduce the tropical deforestation associated with the sourcing of commodities such as palm oil, soy, beef, and paper and pulp. Doing so significantly reduces global greenhouse gas emissions, improves the livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers, conserves natural habitats, and protects tropical landscapes for future generations. It is a key aspect of delivering sustainable and inclusive rural economic development in tropical forest countries. 

The TFA 2020 goals are closely aligned with the mission of The Nature Conservancy and our work across Latin America do reduce habitat conversion attributed to agricultural production. The Regional Analyst will support the Regional Coordinator to builds and facilitates the TFA regional network, support the development and coordinating meetings, agendas, and presentations, and conducts other activities of the TFA 2020 regional Business Plan.  S/he helps to develop strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders and coalitions related to the forest, climate and land use agendas, to advance the zero deforestation agenda.  S/he may organize grass roots efforts to mobilize constituents on legislative/business priorities.

The Regional Analyst will:

  • Assists the implementation and management of TFA 2020 Latin America business plans and strategies 
  • Builds and facilitates internal networks (Latin America Working Group), and support the coordination of meetings, agendas, and presentations – of TFA Regional Meetings and Implementation Dialogues, among others;
  • Support the engagement and recruitment strategies for key regional TFA partners and stakeholders, ensuring their effective involvement in all TFA 2020 activities to advance the zero-deforestation agenda in Latin America. 
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks, including domestic and international travel arrangements for the Regional Coordinator and TFA partners, calendar management, processing expenses, and scheduling and coordinate logistics of meetings and special events of TFA 2020 in Latin America;
  • Financial responsibility to support the completion of TFA 2020 projects appropriately, assist with budget development, quotations and contracts following TNC SOPs;

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Financial responsibility which may include developing and working within a budget, processing check requests, and completing travel expense reports.
  • May provide research and policy analysis in support of legislative, corporate and/or policy priorities.
  • May provide assistance with preparation of program materials including presentations, memos, and other communications.
  • Conveys the goals of TFA 2020 to diverse groups including key legislators, government officials, senior-level corporate actors and others who are critical to TFA 2020’s overall strategies.
  • Works independently, working with supervisor on complex matters as needed.
  • Makes independent decisions within the scope of work assignments
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Fluency in English, Portuguese and Spanish
  • Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure. 
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material. 
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with internal and external audiences.
  • Experience working with partners 
  • Ability to interact with senior leadership in a professional manner

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Project management experience including coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside an organization
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Experience with and knowledge of key commodities impacting tropical forests and their supply chains, the role tropical forests play in climate change, and climate and land use policy. Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results.  
  • Experience building networks, facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key stakeholders.  
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in public policy, government relations, business, or sustainability.
  • Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive in a decentralized organization with minimal oversight. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Some supervisory experience
