The Development Communications Writer writes and edits a variety of communications materials for fundraising efforts in the Latin America Region. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Development Communications Writer is responsible for writing and editing proposals and other documentation to engage donors, such as fact sheets, annual reports and stewardship reports for both Corporate and Major Donors to make a strong connection with The Nature Conservancy in Latin America.  Specific projects will initially include Corporate and Major Donor proposals, but will later extend to include Fee for Service and Cause Related Marketing proposals.  S/he will serve as an expert resource to the organization’s many departments and plays a lead role in crafting communications solutions that meet specific project objectives, while simultaneously strengthening The Nature Conservancy brand.  S/he participates in collaboratively devising strategies in collaboration with internal departments such as Finance and Conservation to meet specific philanthropy targets. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Manage and serve as team lead on assigned proposals.
  • Does not supervise staff but will coordinate the work of peers.
  • Responsibility and accountability for meeting proposal goals and objectives.
  • Resolves complex issues independently within program area, knowing when appropriate to bring in other internal departments
  • Opportunity to act independently within program goals.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree Communications, Business, Marketing, Administration, or in a related field and related experience or equivalent combination. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience writing or editing one or more of the following:  newsletter, magazine, annual report, web-site articles/stories, donor profiles, presidential acknowledgment letters, campaign brochures, funding proposals, fact sheets, presentations, or equivalent.
  • Fluent in English and Portuguese

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience implementing and managing multiple complex projects.
  • Experience crafting organization- or company-wide communication tools, specifically competitive proposals.
  • Experience presenting to diverse audiences including some or all of the following: internal and external executives, donors, members, board members, and the public or equivalent.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • Experience implementing and measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.  
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills. 
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.  
  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.
  • Experience leading or managing projects.
