The Vice President of Financial Development is primarily responsible for leading efforts to achieve association-wide annual campaign, heritage club and major gifts.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Leads and manages association annual campaign and endowment strategy, heritage club and major gifts.
- Develops and leads a strong financial development team and manages resources and systems needed to carry out the fundraising plans. Provides direction, establishing work priorities in achieving strategic and fundraising goals; assists with the preparation and management of the department’s budget.
- Develops processes and is actively involved in identifying, cultivating and soliciting major gift prospects from the individual, foundation and corporate sectors.
- Provides supervision of and guidance to the Y’s Director of Grants and Foundation Stewardship and grant writing activities; and the Financial Development Specialist I
- Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of development and fundraising.
- Provides guidance and coordination for financial development events.
- Collaborates with IT to ensure a robust tracking system is in place for all gifts and pledges by source and purpose and provides regular reporting to the organization on the status of fundraising campaigns.
- Works collaboratively with the marketing department to develop communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understands the Y’s case for support.
- Represents and regularly shares the impact of the Y’s work across the community.
- Collaborates with HR to provide training to Y associates and volunteers in fundraising. Educates, motivates and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising process.
- Serves as a resource and participates as a leader/member of various organizational committees and leadership groups.
- Leads and participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings. Attend meetings, online webinars, and trainings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Five years in a senior financial development role with a background in successful fundraising in a large, complex not-for-profit organization or institution of education.
- Track record of securing significant foundation and individual gifts for annual and capital campaigns (obtained a minimum of $1 million gift).
- Demonstrated experience building and leading a team of successful fundraising professionals.
- Strong working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
- Excellent communicator, with the ability to lead and influence across a matrixed organization
- Strong time management and organization skills
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and make sound independent judgments
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people, and build relationships with staff, members, and participants
- CFRE strongly preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
