This position provides support and leadership to the YMCA of the Silicon Valley Risk Management.  Risk Management is responsible for the development and implementation of consistent quality standards across the Association and provides leadership for all aspects of quality improvement processes.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assists with the development and implements systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and best practice to manage risk.  This includes crisis management plan, emergency assistance plan, and other plans/policies related to risk. 
  • Responsible for creating a culture of safety, among all staff, responsible for training, advising, and counseling staff while working in a collaborate environment
  • Responsible for developing and leading both the operations safety committee and the risk enterprise committee
  • Coordinates with insurance auditors/adjusters, third party administrators and outside counsel to ensure cost effective handling / prevention of all claims or occurrences including general liability and property and others areas as assigned
  • Develops, communicates, and implements both emergency preparation and crisis management processes
  • Investigates and mitigates incidents as appropriate, documents the investigation as well as the outcome, communicating with appropriate staff throughout the process.   Develops and conducts risk management training programs (i.e. property, safety, program, and crisis management/response)
  • Coordinates the Association’s employee safety program, including educating, developing, promoting, implementing, and monitoring the success of initiatives intended to reduce accidents, reduce costs and create safe environments
  • Provides analysis of employee and member accident and loss trends, and creates solutions to address losses to COO and others
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to put strategies in place to reduce workers compensation claims
  • Monitors and influences Association compliance with safety regulations (OSHA, insurance requirements, best practices, etc.) 
  • Provides leadership and counsel to branches to continually strengthen readiness to provide emergency response to members and staff
  • Conducts inspections/audits of facilities and programs to ensure safety and compliance with legal requirements and association policy and procedures; makes recommendations and/or communicates required actions and follow-up; inspections may be in conjunction with insurance provider, facilities program, capital projects or safety consultants
  • Supports the driver and vehicle safety program, including auditing branch programs and providing trainings and resources to the branch transportation coordinators to support their efforts towards a successful vehicle safety program
  • Provides leadership to the association in the field of risk management, with additional emphasis on aquatic safety and child abuse prevention
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 8 years or more with relevant work experience (risk management, related insurance experience, etc)
  • Previous experience in risk management, loss prevention planning and compliance/safety regulations
  • Highly advanced oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team and demonstrate sound judgment, creativity, initiative and independent thinking.
  • Represents the Y brand by maintaining confidential data
  • Strong Knowledge of ADA, Public Health Codes, and other regulations as related to risk management
  • Ability to travel to multiple locations and have flexible schedule
  • Proven success of successful independent judgement
