The Director of Youth, Teen & Family Programs is responsible for the day to day planning, development, organization, budgeting, staffing, implementation and administration of all curriculum and program activities in the 5-18 year old Program Areas. The Director will oversee Haley Street Youth & Family Program Center, Explorer and Jr. High Day Camp, Camp Fox, Youth & Government, PILOTs and YMCA Tree Lot. The Director will also work in concert with other program/department directors to oversee/manage Holiday Camps, Member Engagement/Program Sales and all Special Events. This position calls you to assume a leadership role in Campaign for Youth and Families, be present at all Special Events, be able to develop and innovate current Youth & Teen programs/ideas.   It is the responsibility of the Youth & Teen Programs Director to assure program quality and safety for all participants along with the research, development and promotion of all above program areas in accordance with   the Associate Executive Director.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Fiscal Management

  • Responsible to learn/write YMCA development, implementation and corrective action of the budgets within the Youth & Family Programs.  Will work the Associate Executive on creating a budget.
  • Responsible to understand the monthly variances reports of the job requirements listed above in GENERAL FUNCTION.          
  • Responsible for achieving revenue and expense targets for departments 24 and 25
  • Responsible for the implementation of the financial assistance program for the departments 24 and 25
  • Reviews department AR report weekly and takes immediate corrective action on participants more than thirty-one days, reports those findings to supervisor.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of the monthly department Account Receivables.
  • Responsible for the implementation of Financial Assistance funds for the departments.
  • Responsible to lead a Huddle Division Team in the Annual Campaign.

Volunteer Development

  • Serves as a staff Liaison for the Program Committee.
  • Responsible for helping recruit quality community/program members to become Committee Volunteers.  
  • Responsible for the recruitment and training of the Camp Fox volunteer staff/counselors.
  • Annual Campaign Volunteer recruitment, development and retention. 

Financial Development

  • Holds a leadership role in the Annual Campaign for Youth and Families.
  • Responsible for recruitment and training of Campaign Leader and (4) Captains to ensure achievement of dollar goal.
  • Develop and conducts department fundraisers. 

Personnel Management

  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of selected department staff.
  • Responsible for annual development of self-training plan in accordance with National YMCA training model.
  • Complete Team Leader Certification
  • Ensures that all staff adheres to Association and Branch polies and procedures, with special attention paid to HR requirements. All staff exhibits the six pillars of character and conducts themselves at all times as pillars of character.
  • Attend bi-monthly branch management meetings.
  • Attend all weekly department/supervisor meetings.
  • Give Leadership when appropriate in Association PMT’s. 
  • Responsible for implementation of Strategic Plan objectives as assigned.

Program/Job Management

  • Ensures that all state laws, regulations and licensing requirements are met for all program areas when applicable.
  • Ensures ACA for Summer Day Camp regulations are met.
  • Spend at least 15 hours per week working on Dept. 25 (Youth, Teen and Family Programming)
  • Spend at least 5 hours per week working on Dept. 30 (supporting Teen Programs)
  • Spend at least 40 hours a week during the summer program period on Department 24 programs.
  • Ensures that program curriculum is current and cutting edge.
  • Maintains and updates table files
  • Serves as Administrator for all programs responsible for and collaborates with supervisor on problem solving.
  • Works with support staff to ensure all budgeting aspects and program aspects are being met.
  • Ensures that all department staff required certifications are maintained and up to date.
  • Develop a program evaluation that measures quality and parent satisfaction and results shared with Associate Executive Director and Program Committee.
  • Responsible for the internal and external promotion of the all Youth & Family Programs, Summer Day Camp and all Department Special Events.
  • Responsible for acquiring and maintaining required records of participants.
  • Solves problems and concerns quickly and professionally.
  • Collaborates with outside agencies when appropriate.
  • Maintains participant registrations in Protivity, including cancellations, changes, scholarships and third party funding.
  • Maintains emergency contact information on all program participants.
  • Empathetically listen and communicate understanding, build relationships to create small communities and provide staff with feedback, coaching, guidance and support.

Facility Management

  • Ensures that all program areas are clean and well maintained.
  • Daily inspects department for maintenance and safety issues. Reports issues to Facility Director and immediate supervisor.
  • Responsible for implementation of the safety program for the department.
  • Responsible for conducting department safety drills.
  • Serves as Director on Duty and Director on Call.

Educational Background: 
At least 21 years of age with a Undergraduate Degree or currently working towards a Undergraduate Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Previous experience working in Youth, Teen or Family programs overseeing program development, implementation and supervision of staff.
  • Knowledge of ACA regulations
  • California Adult, Infant, and Child CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Complete necessary trainings under Leadership Competency Model to fulfill “Team Leader” level within 2 years
  • Committed to the YMCA mission and philosophy

Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $22.00 - $26.00
