Under the direction of the Senior Director of Community Programs, the Youth Development director is responsible for the organization, delivery, and supervision of the Dolores Huerta and Monroe after school programs. In addition, the Youth Development Director is responsible for the youth and active older adult year-long programming at various Mission Housing Development Corporation locations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises before and after school programs at Monroe and Dolores Huerta Elementary Schools.
  • Supervise and coordinate the Mission Housing Enrichment Program.
  • Promote and coordinate the Pee Wee Sports Program.
  • Assists with branch related community and special events
  • Fulfill job objectives (see detailed list below in effect on end results).
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Cultivate and grow volunteers for programs & Annual Giving Campaign
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of program quality and participation in program.
  • Assist with professional staff development
  • Comply with all contract/MOU policies to gather information, insurance, for independent contractor agreements.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
  • Demonstrate the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
  • Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growth.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of four years of experience with youth and adult programming and two years of proven staff development, supervision and training
  • A commitment to providing young people with the highest-quality youth development experience
  • Must be knowledgeable about youth development program design and planning, administration and evaluation, child abuse reporting laws, After School standards, as well as knowledge and awareness of a wide variety of out of school activities
  • Must have the ability to develop positive relationships with youth, adults, parents, staff, teachers, administration, the Y and community members.
  • Must be able to work independently, have consistent follow through and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Must know how to grow, motivate and maintain a strong new team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multi-project/multi-task oriented, including experience scheduling and coordinating multiple fun and education-focused activities for youth.
  • Team player with proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio economic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds.
  • Background/Fingerprint/TB Clearance.
  • Biliterate skills in Spanish preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $60,000.00 - $69,000.00
