NRDC is seeking an attorney for our Water & Wildlife project, working in NRDC’s office in San Francisco, to help formulate and implement strategic litigation and policy responses to defend against attacks on federal environmental laws protecting rivers, freshwater fisheries, and water quality. Length of time for this role will be through January 2021 (approximately 3 years).
Areas of Responsibility:
The attorney will work with senior attorneys in NRDC’s Water & Wildlife project to:
- Formulate and pursue strategic litigation to ensure that environmental laws protecting rivers, fisheries, and water quality are implemented and enforced, in California and elsewhere in the United States;
- Develop strong substantive expertise in in scientific, technical, and legal issues relevant to fisheries conservation and river restoration;
- Assist with legislative advocacy at the state and federal level to ensure strong protections for aquatic ecosystems and water quality;
- Collaborate with other staff and external partners to enhance riverine and fisheries protections;
- Contribute to making NRDC’s work more relevant to diverse communities and interest groups.
Educational Background:
A juris doctorate
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience;
- Exceptional legal writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills;
- Excellent academic and professional record;
- Experience litigating complex cases;
- Comfort interpreting scientific and technical concepts;
- Enthusiasm for teamwork;
- Capacity to work hard and independently.
