The Senior Strategic Communications Manager develops and implements campaign and creative strategies aimed at influencer and donor audiences. S/he will bring marketing, communications, advocacy and/or other campaign tools and thinking to expedite and amplify impact with tangible results. Experience driving advocacy campaigns.  

We need a creative and collaborative campaign manager who can quickly jump on a team, sharpen the focus, identify key audiences and develop campaign and communication strategies with defined outcomes.  The right person is a strategic project manager who can write a creative brief, organize cross-functional teams, think proactively about new opportunities, and keep projects on strategy and moving with momentum. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Senior Strategic Communications Manager develops, implements and manages 2-3 communication campaigns annually that drive conservation, marketing and fundraising goals. S/he implements integrated strategies that tap the expertise and support of a cross-functional marketing team skilled in digital content, events, earned and paid media, donor communications and program strategy. Partners with program staff to design campaigns to achieve short and long terms goals, leverage conservation products and external opportunities, and sets tangible objectives and outcomes. The Strategic Communications Manager will manage outside contractors in the development and implementation of communication activities and may manage communications budgets.  The Strategic Communications Manager will report to the Director of Strategic Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  •  Work with policy, program, fundraising and marketing staff – as well as with external partners – to develop and implement communication strategies and tactics.
  • Manage projects with external strategy, advertising and creative vendors.
  • Partner with program leads to develop sharp, action-oriented campaign strategies with defined outcomes. Prepare campaign briefs, audience profiles, and communications plan in line with strategy.  
  •  Manage development of creative assets against campaign and creative briefs.
  • Significant opportunity to act independently within broad program and marketing goals.
  • Responsibility and accountability for meeting strategic goals and objectives.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum 7 years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Experience implementing and managing multiple complex projects.
  • Experience writing and developing project plans, creative briefs or other strategic documents to drive campaign implementation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
  • Experience in strategic communications, creative development and/or advocacy-based marketing and communications
  • Experience tracking and measuring campaign results.
  • Media, advertising and donor relations experience a plus.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills with ability to articulate complex policy and business issues in a compelling manner that can be understood by a broad audience.
  • Strong collaboration skills. Ability to coordinate with colleagues across different geographies and to influence without authority.
  • Experience and/or understanding of communication best practices at a decentralized organization a plus.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in relevant marketing disciplines.
  • Understanding and experience with fundraising and/or membership campaigns.
