Supporting the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, it is the objective of the Stonestown Family YMCA to support healthy lifestyles by reaching out and engaging all those who seek well-being of spirit, mind and body. Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Senior Director of Healthy Living is responsible for all health and wellness programs and services at the Stonestown Family YMCA. Health and wellness programs and services include, but are not limited to: member engagement initiatives, group exercise, personal training, health education, wellness floors, all aquatic programs and partnerships with healthcare organizations in the service area. The position is responsible for supervision of all staff associated with each area, directly supervising the department leaders for Group Exercise, Aquatics and Healthy Living. In addition, this position co-leads the branch collaborative efforts for retaining members through member engagement, behavioral change coaching and quality health and wellness experiences.
The position will be responsible for creating, role modeling, and fostering an environment that supports the Health and Wellness of all the members, staff and volunteers of the Stonestown Family YMCA.
The Senior Director is responsible for development of, and adherence to budgets, revenue generation, marketing for programs and services, and cost controls, if necessary. The Senior Director is part of the Branch Leadership and Senior Leadership Teams and provides general leadership as a part of that team. The Senior Director of Healthy Living will be responsible for a division of the Annual Giving Campaign which requires recruitment of volunteers to help meet financial goals. The Senior Director will hold some direct service hours in the capacity of health and wellness programs.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains effective working relationships within the internal and external community.
- Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
- Coaches and develops staff: Responsible for supervision and leadership of the group exercise, health and fitness, and aquatic departments. Leads staff and volunteers to ensure high quality programming that meets the needs of our diverse community, as well as the goals & objectives of the Wellness departments. Connects staff to the mission of the YMCA and the meaning of their work. Provides opportunities for ongoing education, mentoring and practicing relationship-building skills. Ensures staff certifications and trainings are up to date. Develops strong sense of team and provides staff recognition and support. Plans and conducts regular in-service trainings and continuing education workshops.
- Develops and evaluates all group exercise programs, small group activities, healthy living initiatives, personal training, and aquatic programming.
- Leads branch retention efforts in collaboration with leadership of membership department. Ensures execution of New Member Engagement Strategy at a high level across the branch.
- Cultivates relationships with program participants. Develops opportunities for class ambassadors and develops systems for volunteerism.
- Identifies/removes barriers to inclusion. Ensures class environments are welcoming and accessible.
- Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fund-raising.
- Supervises program schedule. In areas of responsibility, ensures programs are relevant, meets member and community needs, and keeps in line with industry trends. Maintains seamless programming with cancellations and interruptions kept to absolute minimum.
- Effectively collaborates and communicates with other departments. Works in concert with other branch departments to ensure members are taken care of on their journey to health.
- Interprets the YMCA mission to the members, volunteers, and community and ensures thoughtful implementation
- Establishes strong communication systems with all YMCA staff and facilities.
- Work with leadership to exceed standards in all facets of operations including safety audits, financial goals and staff satisfaction measurements.
- Contributes to the appropriate YMCA of San Francisco’s association leadership groups.
- Interprets the established objectives and policies of the branch and the Association to employees and volunteer leaders.
- Maintain membership and program records & statistics. Prepare necessary monthly and annual reports on activities to monitor progress & plan strategically. Provides data and reports as required for assigned programs.
- Introduces new healthy living programs to the YMCA membership. Stays in touch with current trends and technical developments to keep programming innovative and exceptional.
- Act as liaison to health-related community organizations for the Stonestown YMCA and the YMCA of San Francisco.
- Develops and controls department budgets related to the position.
- Provides leadership and support to the annual giving and fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
- Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
- Ensures high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development, evaluations and on-going training of staff.
- Facilitates/teaches/trains members by working in a direct service capacity, as required.
- Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
- Four or more years of program management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
- Four or more years of direct staff supervision/development.
- Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
- YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certifications* within 30 days of hire.
- Group Exercise instruction certification(s) and personal training certification preferred.
- Proficient in computer, software and data collection technology.
Salary: $73,200.00 - $75,000.00
