Maintains and repairs related buildings, grounds and equipment as needed.  Completes maintenance and improvement of properties, facilities, including preventative maintenance plans. Ordering membership supplies, material for safety, cleaning, stocking of supplies and maintenance of equipment. Provide safe clean YMCA building and sites. This position reports to District Facilities Director as is an essential maintenance staff member of the association shared resource facilities department.  Must have communication skills to insure staff and members get immediate help related to repairs and assuring maintenance and custodial staff are doing the work to provide a safe, clean well-maintained buildings and grounds.  Respond to safety and emergency situations. This is a hands-on position and full working knowledge that demonstrates abilities to perform outstanding mechanical and preventive maintenance work and job tasks are required in all areas of general building and grounds maintenance.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides facilities related support to all association facilities staff.
  • Required to place orders of products and materials for both maintenance and custodial.
  • Limited custodial supervision is required and works mainly with follow up to assigning and reporting cleaning issues.
  • Ability to perform mechanical repairs and installs to plumbing fixtures, electrical outlets, electrical lighting, motors and pumps up 10 horse power, HVAC preventive maintenance, installing attached items to walls and to other surfaces.
  • Demonstrate ability to clean sewer lines when need be (snake out drains).
  • Make miscellaneous major repairs / installs to building hardware and/or minor repairs such as doors, cabinets, counters, fixtures, windows, floors, walls, gutters, locks, garbage disposals, furniture and other types of buildings and grounds repairs that fall into the jack of all building trades category for this position.
  • Demonstrate ability to assemble purchased products for fitness equipment.
  • Provide painting skills in needed.
  • 7/24 for emergencies - schedules to be worked out.
  • Position requires this person to serve YMCA sites and/or emergencies at another YMCA’s when called on.
  • Provide direction to contractors in buildings, as well as being capable of calling and setting up a contractor after approval from supervisor.
  • Communicate effectively with facilities staff both custodial, mechanical and all YMCA staff.
  • Provide quick /responsive maintenance service as follow up to the day to day request of members and staff in house.
  • Capable of being trained and able to work with HAZMAT products such as chlorine and acid used to maintain swimming pool water. May include other pool materials.
  • YMCA’s renovation projects which require all maintenance staff to be available during these times. Will be required to help during these project times.
  • Position requires attendance at all YMCA Trainings.
  • Performs appropriate custodial duties in emergencies to maintain overall facility cleanliness.
  • Advises directors on maintenance on issues and projects as requested with updates and follow up.
  • Provides leadership within all YMCA’s. 
  • Ensures that all maintenance tools and equipment are maintained and operating in excellent working condition.    
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Three or more years of experience in building & grounds maintenance of infrastructure and facilities equipment with understanding of basic plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Working knowledge with buildings and grounds life safety systems and mechanical systems, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry and other maintenance-related areas.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with fitness equipment maintenance and repairs preferred.  Willing to train in fitness equipment repairs.
  • Pool, boiler, CPR and first aid certifications required and if not at hire will need to attend the trainings. CPO certifications are a requirement of this position. YMCA will train and must have in first 6 months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Familiarity with personal computers to access e-mails and work order system preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $23.00 - $26.00
