We are seeking a strong and experienced professional to ensure the continued success of the Mission YMCA. This operation includes a community facility with a licensed preschool, six off-site afterschool locations and multiple other community programs. The Executive Director will oversee the total operation for a $6MM Branch, including: board development, fundraising including annual giving and sustaining development, volunteer and community relations, staff supervision, program development and operations, and fiscal management. Directs and manages the plans, finances, programs, activities, and staff. Directs the branch towards achievement of its operating plan. Oversees and implements policies, programs, and practices. The executive must understand the complexity of the community and the significance of collaboration and partnership with public and private resources.
- Provides direction for setting and achieving the strategic plan, and annual operating plan for the branch and group, in conjunction with the Association plan.
- Provides stewardship to the Branch Board of Managers to ensure a strong, dedicated, engaged and committed Board.
- Leads fundraising efforts in partnership with board and staff towards steady and ambitious growth in donated dollars.
- Communicates and demonstrates the need for transparency and clarity in terms of Board communication, as well as, communication with the association.
- Develops and manages Branch budget and understand the fiscal abilities and constraints of the Branch and Association while coordinating all administrative activities of the Branch.
- Manages and directs operations of the branch facilities and assigned programs, which may include health and physical education, youth sports, youth programs, after school, licensed childcare, preschool, older adult programs, membership and special events programs with special emphasis on program development.
- Team player between and among the various aspect of the YMCA of San Francisco, the YMCA movement and the community.
- Provides direction, leadership and coordination for the annual fund-raising campaign of the group including active participation in annual campaign.
- Hires, trains and evaluates staff and volunteers. Provides leadership, guidance and staff development.
- Develops relationships with community leaders and promotes collaboration with other agencies, schools, and other organizations.
- Oversees the management and maintenance of the branch and group facilities. Develops and administers the facility plans.
- Oversees the marketing and public relations programs of the branch and group.
- Serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and supports the overall objectives of the Association.
- Directs the long-range planning for the Branch through work with the Board and the Association. Understands the need for alignment with Board and Association in order to advance the Richmond District Y vision.
- Demonstrate the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
- Participate in training and abides by the Cause Driven Leader guidelines for the YMCA of San Francisco.
- All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
- Five or more years of professional, senior, management experience including work as an Associate Executive Director or equivalent required, preferably in the YMCA or similar non-profit or community-based organization. The incumbent must have knowledge of financial development, membership operations, board development, marketing, public relations, fiscal management, human resources, risk management, program development, and staff supervision.
- This position is concerned primarily with the achievement of the purpose, goals and objectives of the organization, as it carries on a variety of activities with members and constituents. The Executive Director works closely with the volunteer organization in the development of plans and practices and, after they are adopted, is charged with the responsibility of seeing that they are executed. Thus, they are required to understand the basic nature of the YMCA as a volunteer organization and the respective roles that are carried by volunteers and by staff. Theymust also be aware of the community, its problems, needs and resources, both physical and human. The incumbent works closely with the Board of Managers in matters of fund development, and planning.
- They must have knowledge and understanding of management skills in the administration of the business affairs of the Branch, within its local structure and scope, as will as its place in the YMCA field, national and worldwide setting. Theymust possess ability and skills in fundraising, human resources, and in working with a diverse employee and volunteer workforce.
- This position is heavily weighed on the human relations side. It is necessary that they have a clear understanding of the relationship of the general public to the Branch, of staff to volunteer, and of intra-staff actions.
- They must be able to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved in day-to-day operations. Theymust guide or direct all actions within a continuing consciousness of the operating objectives of the Branch as defined in long- and short-range Branch plan.
- Knowledge of the neighborhoods of the Excelsior, the Mission, Bernal Heights, Glen Park, Noe Valley and a proven ability to work in this or similar communities, and bilingual capacity in English/Chinese or English/ Spanish are preferred. Knowledge and expertise in the following areas is preferred: youth development, specifically school-based programming, licensed childcare, and early care and education, senior programming and other community programs.
Salary: $115,000.00 - $135,000.00
