The Aquatics Program Director monitors the quality of programming, member retention and customer satisfaction of the Aquatics Department so that it will be an Association leader in Aquatics. This position will oversee all Aquatics programming: Group Swim Lessons, Private Swim Lessons, YPAC Swim Team, Waves for Change, Masters swimming, and lap and recreational swimming. This position will directly supervise the Head Swim Team Coach, the Aquatics Coordinator and other program staff. This position collaborates effectively with the Aquatics Safety Director to ensure safe pool operations. This person communicates effectively with other branch departments and partners with other branch programs to provide excellent programs and customer service. The Presidio Y’s Aquatics facility consists of two pools: a 25 yard, 6 lap lane pool and a small, warm water instructional pool, as well as hot tub. Aqua Fit classes are managed by the Group Exercise Department.
- Coaches and develops staff. Responsible for hiring, training, evaluating and developing Head Swim Team Coach, Aquatics Coordinator, Swim Lesson Instructors and Masters coaches and other Aquatics program staff. Connects staff to the mission of the Y and the meaning of their work. Provides opportunities for ongoing education, mentoring and practicing relationship-building skills. Ensures staff certifications and trainings are up to date. Develops strong sense of team and provides staff recognition and support. Plans and conducts regular in-service trainings for swim lesson instructors. Oversees department staff recruitment, hiring and training systems. Holds weekly meetings with Aquatics staff.
- Develops programming. Supervises program planning and development, removing barriers to access, program registration procedures, program curriculum planning, safety procedures, and membership service. Develops and implements new programming. Ensures inclusion of intentional relationship building elements in all programs. Ensures quality programming is delivered with appropriate curriculum and meeting safety standards. Up to date on Aquatics trends and researches competition. Identifies opportunities for community partnerships and builds sources of revenue. Maintains a tracking system for participation, attendance.
- Conducts regular evaluations. Ensures opportunities for listening and observation based assessment. Develops ongoing system for program evaluation and feedback.
- Maintains Pool Schedules. Responsible for effective space usage of facility and creating balance between membership programs and revenue based programs. Collaborates with Group Exercise Coordinator to offer Aqua Fit classes.
- Maintains national and SF Association safety and program standards in aquatics in collaboration with Aquatics Safety Director. Eliminates gaps between practice and policy.
- Audits building safety and addresses any facility issues with the Facilities Department.
- Cultivates relationships with program participants and models excellent member service. Develops a culture of relationship building. Ensures members and participants feel supported and cared for. Creates opportunities for volunteerism.
- Identify/remove barriers to inclusion. Ensures environments are welcoming and accessible.
- Effectively collaborates and communicates with other departments.
- Develops and maintains budget. Excellent fiscal stewardship.
- Leads staff team in promoting Annual Campaign and fundraising. Develop meaningful relationships with members to recruit campaign volunteers. Support Swim Team in planning annual Swim-A-Thon event.
- Establishes strong communication systems with all YMCA staff and facilities.
- Work with leadership to exceed standards in all facets of operations including safety audits, financial goals and staff satisfaction measurements.
- Participates in Aquatics Cohort
- Serve as active member of branch Management Team. This includes participation in branch events, including but not limited to, Halloween Carnival, Trail Run, Holiday Lights and Hoop-a-Thon.
- Minimum of 21 years old
- Available to work weekends, mornings, and evenings as needed
- Two years of experience managing Aquatics programming, including fiscal responsibility.
- Minimum 2 years of experience supervising staff
- YUSA Swim Lesson Curriculum Instructor certification (to be obtained within 3 months of hire)
- Experience in competitive swimming through USA Swimming swim team coaching and/or participation preferred
- YMCA approved CPR/First Aid Certification
- Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification
