The Women’s Building (TWB) is a women-led community space that advocates self-determination, gender equality and social justice. TWB is seeking an Advocacy Specialist that will act as a community organizer to implement the newly formed advocacy program to end sexual assault against women and girls in the Bay Area. Working in partnership with program staff, this position will be responsible for developing and and implementing educational programs, awareness campaigns, trainings, public policy work, coalition building, and community organizing for political change.
Main Responsibilities

Develop understanding of key issues related to sexual assault and determine the political, service, social and cultural landscape of the issue

Assist in the development, design and implementation of the Advocacy Program work plan focusing on TWB’s unique role within the organizational landscape and integrating advocacy into all aspects of TWB operations

Facilitate staff educational presentations on advocacy and sit on all advocacy related committees

Develop clear, compelling and concise messages tailored to specific audiences for all aspects of the advocacy program including social media, media communications, community outreach, program reporting

Plan and facilitate trainings on how to conduct advocacy work

Plan annual advocacy event each fall

Conduct outreach efforts and maintain and develop alliances and partnerships with nonprofits, media, local government and individuals engaging in preventing sexual assault or community organizing/advocacy with the goal of developing a coalition of invested in ending sexual assault

Mobilize TWB constituents and community for campaigns related to sexual assault awareness or prevention or join other mobilization efforts

Identify, monitor and analyze proposed legislation and the potential impact on organizations/coalition priorities
Assist in identifying funding opportunities and ensure that program metrics align with potential funding opportunities
Qualifications

3-5 years’ experience in community organizing and program development including planning and implementation of campaigns, advocacy, outreach, working in coalitions, and planning events

Familiarity with the issues around sexual assault (population, policy, advocacy)

Demonstrated commitment to social justice advocacy

Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including experience in making presentations and/or leading trainings

Flexible schedule which includes the ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed

Proficiency with basic office software and technology

Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred
Salary $50-55,000 annually depending on experience. Benefits include health, dental, partial retirement and generous vacation and sick leave.
