As Recruiting Manager, you will lead the Wikimedia Foundation’s recruiting team and create programs to identify brilliant, dedicated and diverse individuals from around the planet who are prepared to join Wikimedia’s staff -- whether they are software engineers, designers, research scientists, grantmaking experts, fundraisers, community leaders, or they work in other fields that are important for Wikimedia’s success. 

Your work will make the difference in helping the Foundation attract the talent needed to give billions of people free access to knowledge. This position is onsite in our San Francisco office. You will report directly to the Chief Talent and Culture Officer and will be tasked with developing our recruiting strategy, with an eye to the things that make the Foundation a unique place to work, focusing on employer branding, candidate experience, interviewer training, diversity hiring, internship programs, hiring metrics, sourcing strategies, executive hiring, and more. 

We are looking for a manager who is passionate about talent acquisition and passionate about leading a recruiting team, mentoring junior team members while supporting Senior Recruiters as well. Additionally, we are looking for someone who’s ready, willing and able to jump in and take on reqs to help balance the team workload. This is a highly visible role charged with leading hiring for technical and non-technical teams across the entire organization.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Partner with the Chief Culture & Talent Officer, the Chargee d’Affaires, and the People Relations & Inclusion Lead to develop and drive recruiting strategies 
  • Develop and cultivate strong partnerships with hiring teams and executives, and influence change throughout the entire hiring process 
  • Streamline recruiting processes and workflows to improve hiring speed and improve candidate experience 
  • At all times, ensure diversity in hiring: job descriptions that are written to be inclusive, sourcing strategies that reach underrepresented and disadvantaged groups, etc. 
  • Create successful sourcing strategies focusing on finding and hiring global talent pipelines, developing and leveraging relationships with candidate sources (networks, agencies, professional organizations, career centers, etc.). 
  • Use recruiting data and metrics to implement improvements for talent acquisition 
  • Mentor, motivate and grow recruiting team, advising on challenging hiring issues, and supporting continuous professional development of the team 
  • Assist with headcount planning and manage recruiting budget 
  • Manage high-level requisitions (Chief/VP levels), as well as support for board of trustee searches. Additionally take on regular requisitions as needed, in support of overall team workloads.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS degree in a related field, or related work experience 
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years of experience leading a recruiting team 
  • 10+ years of experience creating and managing full cycle recruiting processes and programs, as well as experience in the technology space 
  • Experience leading strategic diversity hiring initiatives 
  • Proven track record of filling technical and non-technical roles, including executive level positions 
  • Success managing, mentoring and growing a thriving recruiting team 
  • Strong experience setting up and using recruiting data and metrics to influence change and implement improvements, experience with Greenhouse ATS preferred. 
  • Ability to deliver results with little direction in a dynamic and often times ambiguous environment 
  • Willing and able to travel approximately 3-4 times a year 
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal), plus high level of diplomacy and confidentiality 
  • Intellectual curiosity - up to date on discourse in the talent field, have a pulse on the industry and bring in new streams of thought 
  • Passion for free knowledge and the open source movement 
  • Sense of humor is always deeply appreciated 
  • International experience or ability to speak multiple languages is a plus 
  • Working knowledge of community based efforts, the wiki environment, and open source are a plus
