NRDC is seeking a Program Finance Manager to work with the China, Health & Toxics, India, Litigation, Midwest, Science Center and Water programs in our SF office. The position will serve as a liaison between finance, development and program staff ensuring accurate and timely information is provided as needed to drive strategic and budgetary decisions.
Budget & Planning
- Assists in the compilation of Departmental operating budgets. Understands the budget and income needs for assigned programs.
- Prepares and performs monthly budget-to-actual analysis, conducts monthly reviews with program managers. Communicates results of reviews and analyses to finance leadership.
- Serves as program staff’s point of contact for budgetary matters. Provides program staff with critical financial information needed for effective administration.
- Assists in periodic budget reforecasts.
- Ensures budgets are input timely and accurately.
- Works with individual programs and Development to build proposal budgets for funders informed by (and adhering to) the approved Program budget.
- Liaise with the Budget Committee on all proposals requiring significant new/non-core expenses.
- Works with individual programs, Finance & Accounting and Development to allocate grants based on grant requirements and budget needs/income gaps.
- Works with individual programs and Development to provide timely and accurate financial reports as required by funders.
- Meets periodically with Program Directors and identified Program staff to review grant income and monitor spending against grants;
- Works with Finance & Accounting and the Grants Management team in Development to maintain and (when needed) amend grant information in the system to improve accuracy in our grant tracking and financial reporting.
Training
- Formulates, recommends and implements effective fiscal training for program staff.
- Provides on-going training and support for Great Plains, Adaptive Insights, Concur and other software to non-financial staff.
Other
- Assists on special projects as assigned.
- Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis as assigned.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
- Federal grants experience a plus.
- Experience with International grants and contracts a plus.
- Minimum 3 years of budgetary planning/management or financial analysis experience preferred.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Organized and detail oriented.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial staff.
