The Manager of Events leads Teach For America - Bay Area’s donor events, shaping the vision and driving relevant campaigns to reach our total annual funding goal of $15+ million. Reporting to the Managing Director of Individual Giving, you are charged with (1) project managing a high-profile, best-in-class gala event raising over $1.5 million; (2) supporting the Individual Giving team with smaller stewardship and fundraising events to retain, upgrade and diversify our base of donors to help ensure that we meet our programmatic and financial goals. You are able to drive towards strong outcomes by being able to navigate complex team structures and diverse set of stakeholders with varying degrees of familiarity and decision-making power, while holding them to your ultimate outcome of building our champion base. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Event and Project Management (75%)

  • Manage all aspects of event planning and event logistics for the External Affairs & Operations team
  • Create an overall project plan for the Annual Dinner in collaboration with fundraising stream leads, and directly manage the planning and execution of a suite of other development events throughout the year
  • Ensure meaningful progress by proactively soliciting and expecting appropriate buy-in and alignment from relevant stakeholders
  • Assist with the preparation of speakers, videos, and other event programmatic elements for annual calendar of events
  • Recruit, train and manage event volunteers to ensure seamless event execution
  • Liaise with event vendors, procure in-kind donations, process invoices for payment and thoroughly track event budget and expenses
  • Track and maintain all event activity in Salesforce, our central constituent management system

Fundraising and Strategy (25%)

  • Develop and execute strategies, in collaboration with the development team, to achieve overall event fundraising and attendance goals
  • Assist with the analysis of event outcomes to ensure continuous reflection and innovation
  • Strategically leverage the Executive Director, board members, and other senior leaders to steward and engage donors, including preparing these individuals for successful donor interactions
  • Maintain up-to-date donor records for relationships under direct purview to ensure accuracy of account information, interaction history, and proposal/report submissions
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree
Skills/Experience: 

Prior Experience

  • 2-3 years of work experience with a proven record of achieving ambitious results
  • Event or project management and/or event marketing experience a plus
  • Experience with donors and managing board members, senior executives and cross-functional team members a plus
  • Knowledge of education/passion for education reform

Work Demands

  • Some weekend and evening work required
  • Ability to travel around the Bay Area
