Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2) Western States Advocate

NRDC is seeking an experienced organizing and advocacy professional to guide the work of E2 in California, Oregon, and Washington to organize and amplify the voice of businesses on environmental issues.

The E2 Western States Advocate will work as a member of the western region campaigns team and with NRDC program staff and with business, environmental and non-traditional allies to advance clean energy, clean transportation, and other policies at the intersection of the environment and the economy throughout the pacific coast.

In addition to developing and implementing E2’s advocacy work in the region, E2’s Western States Advocate will be responsible for organizing business leaders to support our work and overseeing management and growth of E2’s regional chapters in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. E2 Western States Advocate will supervise E2 consultants throughout the region.

This person will functionally report to E2’s Director of Membership Advocacy and be organized as an accountable member of the western region campaigns team.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop, manage, and implement E2’s advocacy work and business organizing in California, Oregon, and Washington, as an integrated member of the western region campaign team.
  • Identify, organize and mobilize business voices for policy advocacy and power-building efforts throughout the West.
  • Engage business leaders on environmental, energy, transportation and other issues to advance policy campaign objectives. This can include fundraising, contract negotiations, media relations and direct and indirect advocacy with policymakers.
  • Direct, organize and execute E2 advocacy trips in state capitals throughout the region.
  • Help develop and work with other business coalitions to advance E2 and NRDC policy priorities.
  • Working with other E2 staff, organize and direct all E2 member events and engagement across E2’s five Western chapters (consisting of 650+ members),
  • Manage E2 member policy committee meetings in California and the Pacific Northwest.
  • Help supervise and develop other E2 staff in the San Francisco office.
  • Serve as E2 liaison to NRDC programs in California and the Pacific Northwest.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree or higher.
Skills/Experience: 
  • This is not an entry level position. At least 7 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in government or in a business, trade association or advocacy organization that involves working with policymakers especially in California is a must. 
  • Experience in organizing businesses or other constituencies and experience in recruiting members into a member-based organization is highly desired.
  • Preference given for experience in clean energy and environmental issues.
  • Preference given for experience in fundraising.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort with advocacy.
