An opportunity to join the growing YMCA of Greater San Antonio Association at our Mays Family YMCA at Potranco.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Branch Executive Director and the Youth Development Executive Director, this position develops, organizes, and implements high quality YMCA youth and family programs. Will also serve as the operational director for assigned out of school program sites. The Director must perform all duties in accordance with state guidelines for youth development programs as well as the policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote youth and family programs growth for the YMCA. Measures progress against strategic goals and ensures continuous improvement.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers related to assigned programs. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff in order to achieve goals and correct licensing deficiencies.
  • Coordinate Child Watch and Kidz Club curriculum and events, family nights, special events, birthday parties, summer enrichment camps, and activities for our youth, families, and community.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  • Ensures the start up and close down of each program site. Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups, and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget. Prepares monthly variance reports.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all agency, parent, and community inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff, and follow incident reporting procedures and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education, Child Development, Family Services or related field is preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years experience in administration, staff supervision and promotion is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • The ability to meet TDFPS standards for Director qualifications is desired.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with staff, YMCA members, and program participants.
  • Must understand the basic concepts of a voluntary, non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff and accept a commitment to the YMCA mission.
  • Employee must have working knowledge of a Mac environment, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: Basic lifesaving to include First Aid, CPR, and AED. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  •  A valid driver’s license is required as well as the capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
  • Within first 120 days of hire, must complete all basic childcare and child abuse prevention training.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $42,670.00
