This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Executive Director of Sports stewards the Y’s cause, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization within the community. This position oversees the operation of all sports programs throughout the Association and is responsible for fiscal management, financial development, program impact, staff and volunteer development, and community education for the program in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the Corporate Board of Directors of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, as well as any regulatory guidelines necessary for operations of the Branch.
Financial Development
- Collaborate with the Association Financial Development Department and Branch Sports Departments to set a strategy to fully engage community sponsors, corporations, program participants, staff and volunteers in a successful Annual Campaign.
- Focus on identifying new opportunities through year-round sports sponsorships to help contribute to an increase in overall financial support.
- Engage with Sports Directors and sports program participants in new and innovative opportunities to contribute to the Annual Campaign.
- Meet all United Way and other grant reporting requirements on a monthly basis.
Staff Development
- Develop and promote a member-focused staff culture based on relationship building, active listening and service above self.
- Insure that all personnel policies and procedures are adhered to within the sports programs.
- Maintain current job descriptions, complete timely performance evaluations of all staff, and ensure that payroll and personnel information is accurate and submitted on a timely basis.
- Develop, implement and maintain personal development and recognition plans for staff.
Fiscal Management
- Assist in developing, managing, and achieving the annual operating budget for Association sports programs.
- Implement strategies to grow program enrollment through successful marketing campaigns, high quality programs, and great member service.
- Continually look for ways incorporate more efficient operating practices.
- Display a high level of fiscal competence through accurate budget forecasting and variance reporting.
Program and Membership Operations
- Role model the foundation to creating a relationship-centered, sustaining experience between individuals and the Y. Ensure that the member experience is at the center of everything we do.
- Routinely evaluate program and service quality and institute corrective action when necessary. Adapt to the needs of our community when necessary.
- Ensure that all program facilities are safe, well maintained and clean.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere that values diversity and inclusion.
Community Development
- Leverage community leadership and connections to position the Y as the leading human development organization in San Antonio.
- Serve as the key connector in the branch service area and demonstrate a reputation for bridging organizations and getting things done. Be seen as the “must have leader” for key community projects.
- Identify and engage with leaders and groups within the service community to tell the Y Story and discern optimal partners related to our 3 areas of focus.
General
- Maintain facility, equipment, vehicles, and groups according to State and Federal regulations and YMCA standards, preventative maintenance plans and facility action plan.
- Monitor and control systems, practice and training as it relates to risk management and safety for participants/employees especially child abuse reporting policies and procedures.
- Manage association-wide projects when needed.
- Any other duties as required by supervisor.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years operations experience with at least 3 years in a sports supervisory capacity.
- The Executive Director of Sports must understand the basic concept of non-profit management and the utilization of volunteers and staff to attain both strategic and operational goals.
- Commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio as well as implementation of these values in all daily work activity is a necessity in this leadership role.
- Must possess high levels of self-motivation and leadership abilities.
- This position requires a demonstrated history of leadership in the areas of volunteer and staff development, budget and fiscal management, financial development, community development and strategic planning.
- Must be fully competent in member service and offering the optimal member experience.
- Ability to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved in day-to-day operations is essential.
- Employee must be able to capture detail and meet deadlines.
- Employee must have very good oral and written communication skills, and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Gmail.
- Must be able to understand ActiveNetwork and Raisers Edge software systems, or be able to learn within 60 days of hire date.
- Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications
- Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: Basic lifesaving to include First Aid, CPR, and AED. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
- YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification preferred.
Salary: $68,000.00 - $75,000.00
