The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Alumni Director oversees the Alumni engagement program and provides strategic direction and oversight to Alumni Regional Directors for ongoing program development and staff development. The Alumni Director integrates Alumni programs into WWP’s strategic outcomes in alignment with the strategic plan, and ensures integration of WWP vision, mission, and culture among Alumni staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for the WWP Alumni engagement program for either the east coast region, or central and west coast regions. Provide strategic direction to management-level staff to achieve Alumni program goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership to Alumni teams for ongoing staff development. Ensure consistent organizational messaging and communication to Alumni team. Coach, train, and develop the team.
  • Provide leadership direction to staff to ensure goals, objectives, and KPIs are met, and the Alumni program strategic plan is tactically executed.
  • Assume integral role in talent identification, hiring, succession planning, and team structure.
  • Provide leadership to Alumni teams for ongoing program development. Identify and develop methods to maintain and ensure optimal outcomes and programmatic development opportunities. Ensure Alumni programmatic goals are in alignment with WWP’s overall strategic plan. Ensure engagement opportunities are consistent with the mission, values and vision of WWP. Identify potential activities and potential issues surrounding them.
  • Identify and develop strategic and operational methods for outreach to wounded warriors and family members. Connect with them, introduce them to WWP, maintain contact, develop ongoing relationships with individual warriors, triage their needs, and increase participation in WWP-sponsored events.
  • Ensure the relevance and strategic alignment of WWP Alumni events based upon the feedback received from warriors and families. Monitor the overall Alumni population and identify, analyze, and report deficiencies or gaps in programs and services, including review of VA, DoD, other third-party organizations, and WWP programs and services.
  • Ensure Peer Leader opportunities and Collegiate Sports initiatives are integrated into Alumni programming.
  • Track, review, evaluate, and report to leadership on progression of Alumni team outcomes. Collect and report results and performance metrics for Alumni events and activities. Evaluate initiatives, trends, and metrics for program modification or inclusion.
  • Establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with WWP teammates across the country, to ensure Alumni issues are successfully resolved and communicated appropriately.
  • Speak to diverse audiences about all WWP programs and services. Develop community support for WWP. Present WWP vision and values to the community, communicating the benefits of WWP programs and services, and inspire them to become involved with and support the WWP vision.
  • Forecast, develop, and manage the Alumni program budget.
  • Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate Alumni projects and contracts.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. Equivalent combination of education, applicable military experience, training, or certification may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills. Confident communicator, with demonstrated ability to present information effectively to large audiences, small groups, and individuals, facilitate group discussion, and serve as a representative of the organization.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relationship management and partnering. Exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to respond to sensitive matters with diplomacy and empathy.

  • Demonstrated understanding of budget management and fiduciary oversight principles.

  • Ability and dedication to travel in support of WWP programs and services outreach.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • May require lifting/carrying items up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time including overnight and weekend travel

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Seven years of relationship-building experience with military organizations, veterans’ associations, regional non-profit organizations, community partnerships, or similar targeted constituents.
  • Five years of staff management experience.

Preferences

  • Ten years of experience working with military treatment facilities, veteran’s administration facilities, or military medical separation/ retirement processes.
  • Five years of experience leading geographically dispersed teams.
