Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Physical Health & Wellness Specialist is responsible fordeveloping and executing events and programs to educate, coach, and empower WWP Warriors in the pursuit of their physical health and wellness goals.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develop and execute physical activity programs for participants
- Identify and customize physical activities to assist in the restoration of various motor skills and physical strength of participants in a non-clinical setting
- Ensure logistics, event planning, and oversight for PH&W events/programs
- Work “hands on” with Warriors in monitoring program participation in various activities; provide encouragement, motivation, mentoring, and assistance in goal-oriented outcomes
- Identify new programs, equipment, and strategies that will enhance impact for warriors
- Interact with external resources to build relationships for programming and event opportunities
- Conduct public speaking activities to raise awareness of PH&W programming and discuss the importance of starting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle
- Responsible for a multi-state region that carries both an in-person and remote expectation to fulfill the needs of warriors and family members
- Create and submit information to forecast and report on events, programs, warriors and family members served; maintain a budget
- Work within various software programs to promote and track metrics to measure program impact
- Train and mentor new teammates
- Other related duties as assigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, recreation management, or similar health management field of study required
Skills/Experience:
- Highly motivated, passionate, and creative team player with demonstrated commitment
- Ability to teach, effectively engage program participants, and create individualized programming that will provide a basis for long term behavior change
- Demonstrated aptitude in inclusive sports, nutrition, wellness, and fitness
- Ability to provide high level of service to targeted client/customer base
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and adapt
- Ability to troubleshoot, identify viable options, and problem-solve
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, CVent and SalesForce.
- Possesses a professional presence and demeanor
- Possesses excellent oral communications skills with the ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful and mature manner
Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in fitness industry/allied health profession, health management, wellness coaching, strength and conditioning, and/or personal/athletic training required
- Experience working with disabled individuals preferred
- Military background/experience preferred
- Must be able to travel 25% - 50% of the time
Certifications & Licensure
- CPR-First Aid certification required
- Strength and Conditioning certification preferred (CSCS)
- Wellness Coaching certification preferred
