Co-lead some of the implementation of East Kalimantan Compact at provincial and district levels under the direction of Green Growth Compact (GGC) Project Lead.  S/he will facilitate the East Kalimantan Climate Change Council (DDPI) and other stakeholders to strengthen their institutional capacity to support the Compact.  S/he will serve as the principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community in the scope of GGC project.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Negotiate with relevant stakeholders (such as NGOs and private sector companies) on the development of policies and framework agreements of the Compact at provincial level to support the development of potential prototype initiatives and/or implementation of prototype initiatives of the Compact.
  • Lead the development of potential prototype initiatives and/or implementation of prototype initiatives of the Compact in coordination with relevant stakeholders at district, provincial, national and international levels, including monitoring the implementation of prototype initiatives of the Compact carried out by backbone organizations.
  • Together with the Green Growth Compact Project Lead, serve as principal contacts of partnership between TNC and DDPI for Compact implementation, including to strengthen institutional capacity of DDPI.
  • Co-lead the development and maintenance of key partnerships with public and private organizations in regard to Compact implementation, including to identify technical issues, communicate solutions and liaise and collaborate closely with key stakeholders at provincial level.
  • Coordinate institutional arrangements for the implementation of Compact in East Kalimantan.
  • Lead coordination process at provincial level, particularly with the East Kalimantan Government to improve coordination and communication in relation to the implementation of Compact, Forest Carbon Partnership Facilities (FCPF) and scaling up of the Berau Forest Carbon Program to provincial level.
  • Facilitate the development of potential prototype initiatives of the Compact contributing to the emissions reduction under FCPF framework.
  • Organize the conduct of special meetings, such as VIP trips, learning exchanges, and others.
  • Develop analysis, tools, and frameworks to address natural resource management issues within the Compact framework.
  • The GGC Specialist is based in Samarinda and reports to the Green Growth Compact Project Lead, while maintaining regular communication/close coordination with TNC Indonesia Terrestrial Program staff in Jakarta, Samarinda and Berau.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Geographic size and scope is larger than a preserve and smaller than a business unit, or overseeing one or more components of the conservation function for an entire business unit.                                                                                  
  • Programmatic scope may require cross-boundary work and relationships.          
  • May be responsible for leading or co-leading a whole system program.
  • Leads and manages team or project to support and improve conservation efforts.             
  • Manage multi-disciplinary administrative and professional staff, with responsibility for performance management, training and career development.  Establish clear directions and set stretch objectives.
  • Establish and maintain optimal standards of performance for the department or program while controlling costs and administering budgets.
  • Responsible for ensuring that public and private funds are raised to meet program needs.
  • Builds cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Frequently makes independent decision based on analysis, experience, and context.
  • Y-TNC may, from time to time, assign the Employee to another location(s) in accordance with the requirements of the Employee’s job description and/or Y-TNC’s operational needs. The Employee agrees to work in such other work location(s) in Indonesia.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or   government agencies 
  • Experience negotiating

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.
  • Proficient in English, both oral and written.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
  • Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising. 
  • Politically savvy.
