Accounting Assistant

Responsible for processing all accounts payable invoices; verifying that the General Ledger coding is correct before entering invoices in the accounting system; initiating weekly check run; reconciling monthly statements from vendors; processing vendor 1099’s as required; answering Corporate office phones and assisting callers when the primary receptionist is unable to do so.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The Accounting Assistant works closely with the Accounting Manager and Chief Financial& Administrative Officer (CFAO) to ensure timely data entry of invoices, verification of proper approvals, accurate/appropriate General Ledger coding, and up-to-date filing systems.  Provide general accounting support as needed. 
  • Work autonomously, in a highly organized manner; take initiative when appropriate; complete tasks with attention to detail and accuracy; establish and maintain effective channels for communication; appreciate cultural diversity.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two years related experience in an accounting environment and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to write business correspondence (such as emails), using commonly accepted business writing techniques and appropriate grammar.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate and work as a team.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, dependable and possesses a sense of humor.
  • Willing to follow directions and take initiative.
  • Understands the YMCA mission and the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in interactions with staff and volunteers.
  • Even-tempered and able to adjust tasks in accordance with changing priorities.
  • A neat, clean, professional appearance.
  • Must pass a background screening.
Compensation/Benefits: 

This is a part-time position; rate of a pay is $15-$17 per hour depending on experience. Also includes a free YMCA membership.
