This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Directs all aspects of maintenance and improvement operations of YMCA facilities and vehicles, including preventative maintenance and related budgets and supervision of assigned staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages the hours and wages of hourly program staff according to the department’s budget. Any overtime must be pre-approved by the associate director or the executive director.
  • Serves as a Risk Management and Safety lead for the Center(s)
  • Models and puts into practice behavior that supports inclusion and diversity
  • Informs staff of changes in technology, laws, codes, or regulations with regard to general facility maintenance.
  • Ensures a YMCA culture of committed relationships and engagement is followed.
  • Participates with other members of management in the YMCA’s fundraising campaign.
  • Advises management on maintenance issues and projects as requested.
  • Is responsible for daily cleanliness and mechanical operations of the assigned facilities and/or vehicles.
  • Ensures completion of preventative maintenance and general repairs of HVAC boilers, pumps, motors, small engines, vehicles, pools, roofs, concrete, asphalt, and fitness equipment as relevant.
  • General upkeep of the grounds to ensure that litter, equipment, and debris is out of sight and properly stored.
  • Performs specific tasks as needed inside and outside of the facility including painting, construction, landscaping, sweeping, washing, digging, and shoveling.
  • Continue to develop, implement and maintain the Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Recruits, orients, trains, supervises, and develops staff and/or contracted vendors in order to ensure that all property functions are managed and administered in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Maintains third-party contracts in accordance with association standards.
  • Documents audits and coaching as necessary of staff, vendors and contractors on their performance to ensure quality work and prompt maintenance of an environment that is supportive of a positive experience.
  • Performs quality work within given deadlines and expectations with or without direct supervision.
  • Interacts professionally with other employees, members, program participants, volunteers, and other individuals within the community, always being mindful of the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other appropriate individuals.
  • Develops and manages a departmental budget within established guidelines.
  • Regularly inventories and orders supplies for the assigned facility to ensure smooth operations.
  • Attends all regularly scheduled center and association meetings as directed.
  • Develops, maintains and supports center safety efforts through documented environmental safety audits and staff training.
  • Works to ensure the safety of staff and members.
  • Ensures staff maintains safety trainings and certifications required; maintain records related to emergencies and the handling of hazardous materials.
  • Supports team members with special events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two or more years’ experience in facility management or closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance-related areas.
  • Skills in supervision, budget management and project management.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 60 days of employment.
  • CPO and boiler certifications required within 120 days of employment.
  • Ability and current license to drive with record that meets YMCA standards.
  • Skill in estimating the cost and amount of materials needed for repair and maintenance of building structures and mechanical equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Thorough knowledge of acceptable maintenance and repair in all phases of building
  • Considerable knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with personal computers helpful.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $43,000.00 - $53,000.00
